Tang Qing suddenly felt something was amiss.
Although the youth before him exuded unrivalled beauty and appeared like a mere human young man, it couldn’t change the fact that he was a vampire.
Vampires, weren’t they like Countess Bathory, feeding on human blood?
Unsettled, Tang Qing cast a wary gaze at the vampire. Just waking up, his dark eyes slightly moist and cheeks reddened from sleep.
Julian hadn’t noticed before, but the ordinary maid attire draped on this Eastern maid accentuated her slender, fair neck, adding to her charm.
She had a delicate and alluring appearance.
Tang Qing was taken aback when the young man, who had been at the door moments before, suddenly appeared behind him. His icy body drew close, a slender, cool hand gently sliding up from Tang Qing’s neck to his soft earlobe.
“Is the maid offering to serve me breakfast?”
The chilly breath brushed against Tang Qing’s ear as the hand teasingly explored his neck, drawing a sultry and ambiguous touch.
“Smells quite delicious.”
Julian lowered his head, taking a light sniff at Tang Qing’s neck before offering his comment.
Could it be that Julian’s idea of breakfast was… him?
Shivering from the cold touch, Tang Qing stammered, “Young Master Julian, my blood… it’s not palatable. Even mosquitoes avoid me—they don’t find my blood appealing like others.”
Fearful of piquing the vampire’s interest, Tang Qing racked his brain, “And, uh, you’re from the West, so maybe Eastern cuisine wouldn’t suit your taste.”
Julian couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
“Unless you try, how could you know if I dislike Eastern dishes?” The vampire’s emerald eyes glistened as his soft, ice-cold lips lightly grazed Tang Qing’s earlobe, as if savoring a delicacy.
“Perhaps Eastern dishes offer a unique flavor profile, don’t you think?”
As Tang Qing trembled in fear, contemplating whether to douse himself in garlic juice as a precaution, Julian finally withdrew from his neck with a leisurely pace.
“You seem quite frightened, with goosebumps all over.”
As Tang Qing felt the cool breath recede, he finally regained his composure.
But before he could relax, the vampire youth remarked, indifferent as ever:
“I heard that humans in a state of shock or arousal have faster blood flow, making the taste even more delicious.”
Unable to bear it any longer, Tang Qing pushed Julian away in frustration and ran out of the room. He realised that this cruel youth had been toying with him.
…
In the afternoon, after finishing cleaning Julian’s room, Tang Qing found himself with some free time. Since becoming Julian’s personal maid, his workload had drastically decreased, with not many tasks left to do.
Under the guise of tending to the garden, Tang Qing surreptitiously roamed around the castle, getting a general understanding of its layout. In the garden, he dug a small exit and slipped out.
“99, will I be noticed if I leave this way?”
【No, host. The castle is vast, with many people and the staff don’t pay attention to such details.】
【Moreover, the castle’s boundaries are enchanted—similar to Eastern concealment formations. Without guidance, servants can’t leave, and ordinary people can’t find their way in.】
After a few days of observation, Tang Qing noticed that the Countess lured in impoverished individuals or girls without parents. Once they came to work as servants here, they lived in the castle and periodically sent money home to assure their families they were safe.
Living in a remote, impoverished area where families often had many children, the absence of one daughter was perceived as her being married off or simply losing contact with her family. Thus, the secrets of Castle Csejte remained undisclosed.
The weather was overcast that day, with little sunlight. Tang Qing discreetly followed the path, jogging lightly, as he neared the spot where he had arranged to meet Princess Lily.
Suddenly, a large net dropped from the sky, ensnaring him completely.
“Who’s there? Help!”
Surprised, Tang Qing found himself trapped in the net, unable to move.
“Speak up. Who are you, and why are you skulking around here?” a clear male voice demanded.
The newcomer had a striking appearance, with golden short hair glinting in the sunlight. Tall, muscular, and clad in exquisite silver armor that accentuated his imposing figure, he exuded a natural aura of strength and nobility.
A typical dazzling man with golden hair and azure eyes.
“I-I’m here looking for someone. Please release me,” Tang Qing pleaded, struggling against the net.
The man took out a glittering cross from his pocket and placed it on Tang Qing, sizing him up before withdrawing the cross.
“Sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought you were a vampire, given your suspicious behavior,” the man noted, releasing Tang Qing from the net upon seeing no reaction to the cross.
“Hello, I’m Carter Rochester, the Commander of the Knights of Ireland, the guardian of the realm. You can call me Carter.”
Carter explained, “There’s a noble passing through this route soon, so I came early to clear any ambushes. My apologies for unintentionally injuring you.”
Tang Qing couldn’t help but think, You were practically setting up an ambush with your eyes closed.
【Host, this knight is the male lead of this small world, the Knight of Light Carter. He is here to protect Princess Lily.】System 99 quickly reviewed the plot and explained.
Relieved upon hearing this, Tang Qing’s expression softened. So, this knight was Princess Lily’s protector.
Carter observed Tang Qing and suddenly asked, “Are you Angela?”
Perplexed, Tang Qing shook his head.
“Aren’t you the heroic maid who replaced the princess at Castle Csejte, Angela?”
Helplessly, Tang Qing clarified, “Yes, sir, I am here to find Princess Lily. My name is Anne, the maid of her Highness the Princess.”
Blaming himself for choosing such a common name, in Ireland, names like Anne or Angela were as ubiquitous as John or David in his country. It wasn’t surprising for people to mistake them.
Recalling the portrait Princess Lily showed him before leaving. The portrait showed a petite and cute girl, but the person in front of him was much taller than he had expected.
Apologising, Carter said, “Miss Anne, I sincerely thank you for your sacrifices for Ireland and Princess Lily. On behalf of the Royal Knights, I express our respect to you.”
He then executed a gallant salute befitting a knight.
As Tang Qing was about to respond, another knight rode up on a horse, holding a net similar to the one used on Tang Qing.
“Sir Carter, I caught a suspicious-looking black cat.”

I don’t know, I’m not a vampire. I like garlic bread though. It would be sad if vampires can’t enjoy the greatness that is garlic bread.
