“I…”
Tang Qing knew that Julian must have heard his conversation with Shax and the others.
He pursed his lips, knowing there was no need for excuses.
Humans and vampires were naturally on opposing sides.
Although Julian had saved him from Countess Bathory, it couldn’t hide the fact that Julian was a vampire who fed on human blood.
“Just as you heard, I came to the Castle Csejte to gather information, to protect Princess Lily, and to protect the girls from Lady Bathory’s harm.”
“Just you?”
Julian sneered, “A weak maid like you, swayed by a few words, actually thinks she’s a hero? Forget about Prince Sephiroth; even a low-level vampire can easily crush you.”
Tang Qing lowered his gaze, remaining silent.
He knew Julian’s words were not an exaggeration.
Risking his life to complete the mission, he had come to the Castle Csejte alone. But in reality, with his abilities, he couldn’t stand against anyone here.
If it weren’t for the fear of Princess Lily being in danger, they wouldn’t have sent a mere maid like him to gather intelligence.
But, even if it wasn’t for the mission, as a conscientious human, he couldn’t stand idly by while Countess Bathory committed such atrocities without feeling anything.
“Are you just here for that Princess Lily?” Julian suddenly asked.
“Yes.”
Though he didn’t know how Julian had figured out his goal, Tang Qing nodded. His mission was indeed to protect the princess.
He further explained, “I came to Ireland alone. Over the years, Princess Lily has taken care of me a lot. I consider her my most important family. I know Countess Bathory wants royal pure blood, so I risked my life to come to Castle Csejte.”
Julian couldn’t help but chuckle.
He had figured it out. This maid, whether teasing with the young male servants in the castle, engaging in conversation with the decent-looking knights like Carter or Shax, showed no special emotional reactions.
It was only when embracing Princess Lily that her face turned as red as a monkey’s.
In the Kingdom of Ireland, there are many people who secretly harbour same-sex preferences, but due to strict laws prohibiting it, no one dares to speak out. After Princess Lily came to power, the punishments became less severe.
Among the vampire clan that disregard human morals, such behaviours are even more common. They only seek power and sensory stimulation, and as long as a vampire is attractive or powerful, regardless of gender, they can be potential mates.
When Julian was still a prince, there were countless men and women who sought a night of intimate encounters and blood exchanges with him.
“The Princess and that knight are clearly a couple. Do you really think your limited charm could capture the attention of the princess from the royal family?” Julian mocked.
“You, as an Easterner, may not know that in Ireland, a country that believes in God, homosexuality is deemed against the will of God, a sacrilege.”
“Once discovered, according to the law, one could be sent straight to the gallows, facing death by fire.”
Julian looked at Tang Qing, adding with malice, “Do you believe your Eastern origins or your affection for the princess will exempt you from Irish law?”
“In Ireland, regardless of where you come from, the law applies equally to all.”
Having said that, Julian stared intently at Tang Qing, observing his facial expressions change.
But Tang Qing showed a puzzled expression.
One moment, they were discussing his infiltration of Castle Csejte, and the next, they were talking about Irish laws.
He blinked and tried to comprehend, but he couldn’t catch up with Julian’s thought process.
Completely lost in Julian’s rapid-fire questions, he couldn’t find the focal point.
Tang Qing, looking perplexed, opened his mouth and replied, “I never thought Irish law would show me any leniency, and I dare not have any improper thoughts about Princess Lily. She is a noble princess of the Irish royal family, and Lord Carter is a perfect match for her. They are a natural pair. How could she possibly be interested in an ordinary person like me?”
Julian hit the nail on the head, “Are you saying that if there were no legal constraints and if that woman was interested in you, you would willingly pursue your Princess Lily and beg her to be with you, is that right?”
“Huh…?”
Was that really his intention?
The confusion in Tang Qing’s dark eyes intensified.
He had come to Castle Csejte to complete a mission, and now things were spiralling out of control.
…
“I don’t mean…” Tang Qing licked his lips, trying to keep up with Julian’s train of thought, “I meant to say that I greatly admire Princess Lily, and I believe she and Lord Carter are a perfect couple. I have never entertained the thought of intruding on their relationship.”
And besides, with his current appearance resembling a girl on the surface, why would Julian think he wanted to be with Princess Lily?
“It’s good that you have that self-awareness,” Julian’s expression slightly eased upon hearing that Tang Qing had no intention of pursuing same-sex relationships.
“I advise you to keep your thoughts in check, protect yourself, and stop trying to save anyone; taking care of yourself is already challenging enough. Bathory now knows you’ve uncovered her secret, and she won’t let you off easily. Tuck your tail and obediently serve as a maid for me…”
“I’m sorry, Julian, thank you for your concern. I know you mean well,” Tang Qing pursed his lips, speaking firmly. “But even if it’s not about being with Princess Lily, I won’t give up on saving those people in the dungeons.”
“I want to rescue them; they are just innocent common folk.”
Though he knew his power was inconsequential, saying he wanted to save those people was indeed overestimating himself. He couldn’t just hide behind Julian and be a mere maid.
He had come to Castle Csejte to fulfil his mission, as well as to rescue the people in the dungeons and save the little girl who was waiting for him.
“Hmph, I can’t believe you still want to be a saviour? Even the Virgin Mary would be moved by you,” Julian scoffed.
Tang Qing knew that to Julian, these words were taken as a joke.
But he also had his reasons he had to stand up for.
Tang Qing didn’t speak again, just those dark eyes gazed intently at Julian.
“Suit yourself, if you want to be vampire food, I won’t stop you.”
Mockingly, Julian turned and walked away.
Tang Qing watched Julian’s retreating figure, understanding that Julian was angry with him. Julian was annoyed that Tang Qing had contacted Princess Lily behind his back and upset that Tang Qing was willing to risk his life recklessly.
He knew Julian was one of the few who genuinely cared about his safety since arriving in this small world, besides Princess Lily. He appreciated Julian’s help and concern for his well-being.
However, humans and vampires are inherently not on the same side.
Tang Qing sighed lightly as he watched the black-haired youth walk away.

Oh I just freaking noticed, IS UR PFP YOUR CAT!!! OMG how silly of me to not notice earlier. Also I specifically searched the word sought’s definition even if I new it, it means to look for or ask for smth and that children necessarily doesn’t mean that our ml accepted it, proving that he is and was single before our baby tangtang [I learned geometry recently I like to use the word prove now, though its exhausting to prove a triangle is a triangle]. He is jealous. Also I think he knows Julian and the cat are same? Thank you for the chapter ChuRen jiejie.
Yes, one of them at least. My current pfp is Yasi, my aloof and arrogant little cutie that keeps trying to run from me when I want to pet him but then follows me around the house and waits for me at the bathroom door when I use the toilet.
