Inside the dark private theatre, two humans and a cat were watching a horror movie with different thoughts coursing through their minds.

Jiang Zimo couldn’t manage to process the pictures flashing on the big screen in front of him. He wasn’t really a fan of these types of films. He had just wanted to take a chance at being comforted by Si Junduo. But right now all of Si Junduo’s attention was focused on catering to the cat nestled in his arms. Jiang Zimo looked at his watch. The movie was already halfway through. He had to do something soon, otherwise, wouldn’t this opportunity be wasted?

As he was pondering if it was better to pretend to be frightened to get closer to Si Junduo, he suddenly heard a shrill cat cry. Jiang Zimo turned his head. The cat on Si Junduo’s lap had its whiskers shaking tremendously.

The orange cat had stuffed his head into the arms of Si Junduo. Being so close to himself, Si Junduo could feel him quivering.

Wen Mingyi was indeed trembling. My God, it was too scary just now! This horror movie was indeed a bit powerful. No wonder it had good reviews. It scared him to death! He leaned on Si Junduo as his paws pressed onto his arm. Had the scene changed yet? He was too afraid to look.

For this big man to still be afraid of horror movies… Si Junduo did not expect it at all. This little kitten which held onto him tightly, it was both cute and a little amusing at the same time.
“I hadn’t expected you to be so timid.”

Who is timid! Wen Mingyi meowed with dissatisfaction. He was a macho man okay! It was all because of this scary movie. You couldn’t blame him. Didn’t cats get frightened easily?! Wen Mingyi shook his whiskers angrily. His paw tapped on Si Junduo as a warning.

Indeed, at every instance Jiang Zimo had pretended to be frightened, Wen Mingyi was always a step ahead. When he was finally successful in pretending to be scared, upon leaning towards Si Junduo, he collided into a soft object — Wen Mingyi was also on Si Junduo’s shoulder, darkly glaring at him as he raised his paw.

Jiang Zimo: …

At that moment, Jiang Zimo had forgotten that he was in the midst of being frightened.

While watching the movie with all that scuffling and scrummaging, Jiang Zimo and Si Junduo had no chance to talk, and Wen Mingyi slumped in Si Junduo’s arms. Wen Mingyi was exhausted, both physically and mentally. The movie tested his psychological endurance while Jiang Zimo tested his physical agility, he was just a little orange cat on protection duty. Must it be so difficult?

It was past 11 o’clock when the movie ended. It was not easy to take a taxi at this time. “Can you send me home?” Jiang Zimo asked. Si Junduo did not refuse.

Wen Mingyi immediately regained his energy. The moment Si Junduo opened the door, he sprinted out of Si Junduo’s arms and landed firmly on the front passenger seat.

Jiang Zimo, upon opening the car door, saw the orange cat who had been at odds with him all night. The cat out-stared him with arrogance and disdain.

Si Junduo noticed his pause and told Jiang Zimo, “Why don’t you sit behind.”

“You spoil this cat too much.” Jiang Zimo held the car door, disgruntled. “It is just a cat but it is occupying a whole seat.”

Si Junduo did not reply. Wen Mingyi snorted and raised his little head triumphantly. That is my ge! Should he spoil you then? If not me then who else! Give it up! As long as I am alive, I will be his most beloved person! It will never be your turn, you black-hearted lotus!

Wen Mingyi was leaning comfortably on the back of the seat, sitting upright, there was absolutely no space left for Jiang Zimo to squeeze in there.

Seeing this, Jiang Zimo had to open the door of the back seat and unwillingly sat behind.

Si Junduo started the car, planning to send Jiang Zimo home first. Along the way, after many in vain attemps at making small talk, Jiang Zimo finally found a topic to talk on.

As Si Junduo was driving, Wen Mingyi didn’t dare to make too much noise. Occasionally, he’d let out a mewl to remind Si Junduo that he was still here; so don’t forget your promise.

Si Junduo drove until the small community gateway and kindly reminded, “We have reached.”

“Thank you. How about I invite you to a meal another time?” Jiang Zimo smiled.

“No need,” Si Junduo declined. “From tomorrow onwards, I will be very busy. If you have questions, you can look for your team leader or Wenbo. There is no need to come to me.”

Jiang Zimo paused while opening the door. This was the second time that Si Junduo said this. He asked puzzledly, “Why do you say this suddenly?”

Si Junduo calmly said, “It’s nothing. Just that I’m going to be busy.”

“Is it related to Wen Mingyi?” Jiang Zimo looked at Si Junduo’s profile and asked in a serious voice, “Is it because he dislikes me, so he does not want you to be in touch with me?”

Although his words were inquiring, his tone was quite confident, as if he was sure of it already.

Wen Mingyi’s cat ears twitched when he heard those words. That’s right. It was me, your Grandfather1To imply self is higher standing than him), who wanted it.

“It has nothing to do with him.” Si Junduo reached out and touched the kitten sitting in the front seat. He asked smoothly, “Do you like me?” This question surprised both Wen Mingyi and Jiang Zimo.

His tone was gentle, with his usual calmness, “Or vaguely have feelings for me?”

Jiang Zimo unconsciously scratched his pants. He nervously said, “Of… of course not, why would you think so? We are just friends.”

Si Junduo turned his head and smiled slightly. “Jiang Zimo, you are not for me, so let’s not meet again.”

Jiang Zimo was puzzled. “I think we are quite happy together, aren’t we?” How come they were not suitable for each other? They were obviously suitable. They had always been in harmony.

He still remembered the first time they had met. While Jiang Zimo was working in the hotel, Si Junduo had booked a table and prepared a cake for Wen Mingyi’s birthday. He had been so gentle and considerate, but Wen Mingyi hadn’t even looked at the cake. Raising his hand, he knocked the cake over and sneered, “Is my birthday related to you? Why are you so annoying? Whatever good mood I had is totally lost when I see you!”

Wen Mingyi lost his temper and left towards the elevator, leaving Si Junduo standing alone at the table. Jiang Zimo looked at Si Junduo who was standing alone, not very far from himself. At that time, he had thought it would be nice if someone could treat him this way too, so he had walked over and silently cleaned the cake on the floor.

That day, Si Junduo drank a lot of wine, and ended up a little drunk. His steps were a little unsteady as he stood up. Jiang Zimo couldn’t help but mutter, “He didn’t cherish it. It’s his loss. It’s not your fault.”

Si Junduo glanced at him when he heard his words. After a long time, he uttered, “It’s not like this.”

Jiang Zimo didn’t understand that sentence. But he soon saw Si Junduo again at school. They were from the same university, just that Si Junduo had graduated. After coincidentally meeting a few times, they gradually became familiar with each other. The more familiar he became, the more he liked Si Junduo, and the more he hated Wen Mingyi.

He initially thought, even if they couldn’t be a couple, they could be friends forever. However, there was not even a chance now.

Si Junduo looked at the obviously helpless person in the back seat. A pitiful look, with eyes tearing up, a very heart piercing appearance.

He thought of the umbrella Jiang Zimo had given to him in the rain, the cake Jiang Zimo had baked for him, and of the time when Jiang Zimo had wished him happy new year personally, even when the temperature had dropped to zero degrees.

Si Junduo sighed in his heart. To be honest, he didn’t hate Jiang Zimo. Although he didn’t like what Jiang Zimo did sometimes, he didn’t hate Jiang Zimo in general. If it weren’t for Wen Mingyi’s rejection of him, if he had no extra feelings for Jiang Zimo, he might not have said these words at all.

After all, they had been friends for over a year. During those times when Wen Mingyi spoke harshly to him, making him unable to understand anything, confused and irritable, Jiang Zimo was the one who helped him feel peaceful and calm.

It was a pity that Wen Mingyi’s rejection towards Jiang Zimo was too obvious.

To him, nothing was more important than Wen Mingyi staying next to him. As long as Wen Mingyi stayed by his side and walked every step safely and smoothly, he didn’t care about the others. Whatever Wen Mingyi strongly rejected, he would not retain.

“It’s late,” he stated. “You should go home.”

Jiang Zimo watched him as the grievances in his eyes grew. “You can’t do this. Junduo, you can’t let Wen Mingyi influence your choice of friends. You care about him, but what about him? He doesn’t care about you at all! Did you forget how he treated you before? A selfish and mischievous person like him is not worth it!”

As soon as he finished speaking, he heard a sharp meow. Jiang Zimo looked up. The orange cat that was initially sitting down had leaped onto the back of the seat. They stared into each other’s eyes. Suddenly, the cat pounced on him, and a paw slashed across his face.

Jiang Zimo was shocked. Wen Mingyi returned to the back of the chair, staring at him fiercely, ready to attack again! He shook his white whiskers, and his little pink nose twitched. The cat had a face full of anger. Trash! You still dare to mention the past! If it weren’t for you, the protagonist, would I have rebelled against my brother for three years! Even after taking advantage, you still dare to diss me. Shameless! See if laozi doesn’t kill you!

Jiang Zimo recovered from the shock of being scratched by the cat, and he touched his face unconsciously. Fortunately, there was no blood. Si Junduo reached out to grab the cat from the back of the chair. Wen Mingyi wanted to break free, but he was held down by Si Junduo. “Be good.”

Wen Mingyi stopped moving, but left his pair of cat eyes staring fixedly at Jiang Zimo.

The Jiang Zimo who was being stared at had his heart filled with doubts. How could a cat be so fierce? His affinity with animals had always been quite good.

“Are you okay?” Si Junduo asked him. “I don’t see any blood or scratches, So this shouldn’t be anything serious.”

After saying those words, he remembered that Wen Mingyi had not been vaccinated yet, and neither was he sure if Wen Mingyi needed a vaccine in this situation. Should it be a vaccine for humans or animals? It couldn’t be that he needed a vaccine for humans in the day time, and a vaccine for animals after 9pm?

“It’s fine,” Jiang Zimo replied. “It seems like your cat doesn’t like me.”

Si Junduo smiled and did not continue the topic. “You should get out of the car now,” he repeated it again.

“What I just said, you…” Before he could finish his words, Wen Mingyi started to move again, struggling to give the person in front of him a taste of his claws once more. He was going to let Jiang Zimo know what to say and what not to say!

However, before he could struggle out of the tight grip, he heard Si Junduo say, “Jiang Zimo, I don’t need anyone else to worry about the matter between Ming Ming and I. It is not for you to comment.”

“I’m doing it for your own good!”

“I don’t need it,” Si Junduo coldly said.

His tone was cold and harsh as his hands stroked the orange cat gently. “I have watched him grow up since I was a child. If there is a problem with his growth, it is not him who should be blamed, but myself. In the same way, when he makes a mistake, I will educate him, but only I can educate him. Other people do not have the qualifications and rights.”

Jiang Zimo was stunned. Wen Mingyi was also stunned. He couldn’t help but look back at Si Junduo. Si Junduo gently tapped his little nose and said softly, “So I don’t blame him for the past. As long as he is obedient from now onwards and doesn’t make me angry anymore.”

Wen Mingyi looked at the gentleness in his eyes and couldn’t help sticking out his cat tongue, licking those outstretched fingers. Si Junduo was slightly surprised. Wen Mingyi saw surprise and the smile appearing in his eyes. After Wen Mingyi realised what he had just done, his catself was petrified!

What did he just do? ? ? ! ! !

Pei Pei Pei!2Sound of spitting – used to scold someone This wasn’t him! Blame this damned cat body! Too frivolous! He actually! Licked someone’s fingers! Spicy chicken3aka Rubbish orange cat! Such unclean habits!

The author has something to say:
Ming Ming: This orange cat is really too frivolous!

  1. Si JunDuo has accepted a new quest, take care of cats and dogs.
Rewards free lover x1, cat x1, dog x1, protection stats increased by 100%, stress stats reduced by 80%, fluff stats maxed out, free licks at finishing mini-quests.
    Thanks for the chapter! <3

  2. It kind of annoys me that Wen Mingyi won’t take responsibility for all the dumb shit he did in the past. Like dude, c’mon. Stop blaming everything on the plot. Throwing a cake on the ground sounds exactly like something you would do.

    • Fr. Honestly, it MIGHT have something to do with the plot etc, but that’s also no excuse. I think he’ll get better in future, acknowledge he did stupid things and most importantly, make up for them! At least i hope so-

    • Right, throughout the chapters I find him lowkey toxic and he’s always emotionally gaslighting si jundou by asking him everytime if si jundou still love him and always making si jundou choose between him and jiang zimo, He’s really toxic in my opinion

      • Well if you think about it, Mingyi DIED because of JZ, and so did his ge, directly and indirectly. Being stubborn and slightly cunning to steer the plot away from that direction is wholly justified imho. As for gaslighting?? I think you’re using that term a bit too casually, it’s not anywhere near to that. This person literally had his entire existence, life and death re-explained, he’s panicking and the clear villain in this story is right in front of him, he’s more or less scared of the way things could happen. From a realistic angle, I believe most of us wouldn’t be much better off, judge him standards that you might yourself conform to. Why am I so invested, sheesh…

  3. I get why people are annoyed at Mingyi, but I think he’s a realistic and sympathetic character. He reminds me of some people I’ve known, whose hearts were always in the right place even if their feet were pointing in the wrong directions. He’s young and having trouble digesting the (horrifying and completely disproportionate) fallout of his actions, and there’s a clear villain to blame, so he pushes everything onto Jiang Zimo, but that doesn’t mean he will forever. What I think people need to realize is that he genuinely hasn’t had time to work through what’s happened and his role in it–he saw his death and immediately got beamed back, and has been in panic crisis mode ever since. Cut him some slack!

  4. Hm I think he has a point with what he said (clarification I’m not supporting him I’m supporting what he said) MC was indeed very selfish and mischievous before, and its justifiable this bxxh thinks this way since it really was what he saw. He doesn’t know he’s a protagonist (unlike those reincarnated og protagonists/people who transmigrated into the og protagonists who are conscious of their standing in the world and know everything revolves around them), so he technically wasn’t the one who initiated MC’s negative behavior towards the ML unlike what the MC said. Plus, we also got to see MC’s reasoning behind his past actions so it wasn’t like he spontaneously changed in one night due to the plot’s influence. Although some events in his life were indeed caused by the plot’s control, the more major aspects of his life like the way he acted towards the ML and his decision to enter the entertainment industry was still HIS doing because like I said, it wasn’t like feeling that way or choosing that path controlled by the plot, there was a build up within his own emotions and personality that made him choose those choses, it wasn’t the plot who chose it for him, he walked on that path himself and turned himself that way yk? Damn why’s it so hard to explain wtf.

  5. Can i just say regardless of why he treated SJ so badly in his last life (cos the ‘plot forcing him to do so’ seems like such a convenient excuse) it’s kinda pathetic to blame ur parents for not caring for u on the only one who has ever cared for u. How unappreciative. If he wants to rebel against his parents fine but he just blames his blameless ge. How cowardly?
Also i remember reading more of the novel before and he forgives his parents pretty quickly for accepting his murderer(!!) as a godson in his past life, as well as his neglect throughout his 2 lives. Can’t respect that when he let SJ take all his anger issues like he owes him????
What do i know, chinese webnovels sure love to lick their parents’ feet regardless of what they do to u like it’s touching. No thanks, fk confucius, fk filial piety without return. Before u start saying im racist and dont understand culture, im a chinese saying this.
