Chapter 23

Han Cheng went upstairs in a hurry. Upon asking the service staff, he came to know that Xia Tian had returned to his room and quickly followed suit.

Fortunately, Xia Tian was not angry enough to lock the room.

Han Cheng took a deep breath and swiped his card to open the door.

There was a mess on the carpet; the scattered chips and Xia Tian’s baseball jacket.

It wasn’t difficult to imagine the scene where Xia Tian entered the room with anger.

Han Cheng looked at the bargaining chips that were all over the floor and smiled helplessly. It seemed like the way he smashed the cue stick in front of him just now was restrained.

He proceeded to close the door, picked up Xia Tian’s clothes, and put them on the sofa. He looked around the living room and walked to the bedroom.

In the bedroom, Xia Tian had his back toward the door, sitting on the bay window and looking outside through the glass wall.

The sound of just opening and closing the door was not soft. Han Cheng was sure that Xia Tian heard him coming in.

This meant that he should be allowed to approach. Han Cheng took a few steps closer and noticed that his shoulders were trembling.

Xia Tian quickly raised his arm and wiped his eyes with his wrist.

Han Cheng felt a pain in his heart.

“Don’t you want the chips you’ve won?” Han Cheng turned around and went out of the bedroom, went to the living room and picked up the chips that Xia Tian had thrown all over the floor.

He moved very slowly, giving Xia Tian enough time to react.

After tidying up the living room, Han Cheng walked into the bedroom and sat next to him.

Xia Tian’s eyes were still red. He pressed his lips tightly and looked out the window without speaking. Han Cheng said softly, “I’m sorry.”

“Why did you ask them…”

Xia Tian’s voice was uncontrollable with a bit of crying. He turned his head irritably. Angry with Han Cheng and frustrated with himself, he simply gritted his teeth.

Han Cheng was silent for a moment and said, “After I told you that I would come here to play, I asked someone to contact the person named Du Ze.”

“I don’t know what went wrong in the middle, but the person who sent the message didn’t explain the matter clearly which made Du Ze mistakenly believe that I was bringing some messy people over. That’s why those people were present just now.”

Xia Tian was slightly startled.

Han Cheng’s tone was calm. “If he’d known that you would come, Du Ze wouldn’t have dared to make trouble like this, no matter how bold he was.”

“I’m not trying to find excuses for myself. Making you angry, it’s my fault.” Han Cheng gently held Xia Tian’s hand and said, “At that time, I asked you to accompany me to gamble in order to…”

At this moment, it was not possible to mention the car gift. If he did, even he would feel that he had decided this on the spot, in order to calm Xia Tian’s anger. He made up a reason to give him the car to appease him.

Han Cheng didn’t want Xia Tian to misunderstand again, so he paused and changed his words. “It was to make you happy. Meeting those people… I was much more surprised than you.”

Xia Tian looked down in thought. Han Cheng’s words were reasonable.

Especially driving so far to bring him to see his former lover? Who would do such a troublesome thing?

If Han Cheng wanted to avoid publicity and meet Mr. Feng, there were many ways to do so. However, no matter what method he used, he wouldn’t be so stupid.

Xia Tian called about Han Cheng’s expression when he went downstairs just now. He was indeed shocked.

These days, Han Cheng’s care and consideration towards Xia Tian were not for show. Xia Tian was not a person who couldn’t differentiate between good and bad. Just now, he was so angry that his thoughts were muddled. Now that he had calmed down and listened to Han Cheng’s explanation, he gradually understood.

Xia Tian moved his lips, before he waited for him to speak, Han Cheng said, “Nonetheless, the root of the matter is still my fault.”

“No.” Xia Tian’s voice was hoarse, and he said uncomfortably, “I just, I just…”

“Just now, you thought that I was deliberately bullying you by eagerly attacking your heart. It’s not easy to be so restrained.” Han Cheng quickly helped Xia Tian to find an excuse for his actions. “Feng Yizhe provoked you first, it wasn’t your doing.”

“I’m not talking about playing billiards.” Xia Tian recalled the moment he smashed the cue just now and didn’t dare to look at Han Cheng. “I, I actually know that I can’t blame you, but I…”

Han Cheng said, “Why can’t you reproach me? I took you out to relax, but I didn’t expect… Anyway, it’s my lapse in judgement.”

Han Cheng looked at Xia Tian and said, “But I was a little surprised…I usually see you being so gentle. Once provoked, your anger is not small.”

“I don’t usually have a temper because I…” Xia Tian thought about what he had originally told Han Cheng to borrow money for gambling, and his voice croaked. “Of course I am gentle in front of you, but I am not without a temper and I will not let people bully me. It’s just…”

Just because I like you, I am willing to be obedient.

But you can’t rely on the fact that I like you and let people bully me. This would ruin my liking for you…

Xia Tian’s eyes turned red.

Han Cheng sighed for a long sigh… For the first time, he could feel heartache for a person to such an extent.

“I know… Young Master Xia, who dares to bully you? It’s all my fault…” Han Cheng felt a little pain in his heart. It was his first time coaxing someone. Trying his best to make his voice sound gentle, “Blame me, blame me for what happened just now.”

Xia Tian shook his head. He knew in his heart that it had nothing to do with Han Cheng. It was just that he had high expectations. This time he came here and had other plans. Suddenly, when he met Mr. Feng, the many days of fear and insecurity he’d accumulated were unleashed.

The existence of Mr. Feng brightly reminded Xia Tian that he and Han Cheng hadn’t met that long ago and he didn’t know much about the other party. If there were any accidents, his marriage contract with Han Cheng would be discontinued and both would part ways.

Not to mention, their marriage was originally fake.

If Xia Tian was careful enough, he wouldn’t have gotten angry just now. He should carefully reduce his emotions, so as not to let Han Cheng notice anything or make him uncomfortable and destroy his still perfect image in the other’s eyes.

But that was not Xia Tian.

Xia Tian knew that he had just made Han Cheng lose face in front of his friends, but even if he liked Han Cheng, he couldn’t swallow that kind of anger.

He would not be petty and weak because of a crush.

As a result, I beat Mr. Feng in billiards. I smashed the cue stick in front of Han Cheng. I refrained from crying in front of the group of people when my heart ached.

Xia Tian had vented his anger but when he returned to the room, he felt uncomfortable when he thought of Han Cheng.

Xia Tian remembered the sentence Mr. Feng had said. “I will let Han Cheng make amendments for you.” Even if he knew that he had said that deliberately, even if he knew that those images just now were all his own imagination, it was still…

Xia Tian whispered a swear word as he turned his head in embarrassment, big fat teardrops accidentally spilling out.

He felt so terribly wronged.

Xia Tian’s tears fell on Han Cheng’s heart.

Xia Tian was really annoyed with himself. Undoubtedly, he had managed to hold back just now, but now as Han Cheng coaxed him, he couldn’t hold back his tears.

After knowing it was a misunderstanding, he couldn’t control his emotions. Xia Tian rubbed his eyes irritably, Han Cheng held his hand, frowned, and softly reprimanded, “Don’t move… I’ll get you a towel.”

Han Cheng turned around to go to the bathroom. Xia Tian whose courage appeared out of thin air, suddenly grabbed Han Cheng and leaned his head on his chest.

Han Cheng was stunned, spreading his arms and encircling him subconsciously.

This was Xia Tian, not someone who could be touched and endured casually.

Han Cheng’s chest felt a little hot and stuffy.

It was just a bit warm.

Even if he had lost his temper, Xia Tian worked hard to restrain himself and did not make a sound. This lack of self-esteem made Han Cheng feel distressed.

Who the fuck cares about keeping a distance.

Han Cheng hugged Xia Tian tightly.

He gently stroked Xia Tian’s back with gentle movements.

Han Cheng suddenly felt that something was different.

“If you haven’t vented enough yet, you can hit me one more time.” Han Cheng let Xia Tian calm down for a while, turned his head slightly, and whispered, “I took the cue back. Do you want to smash it again?”

Han Cheng felt Xia Tian stiffened in his arms, and he continued, “I’ll be motionless, okay?”

Xia Tian moved slightly. Han Cheng judged cautiously, he should be embarrassed.

“To be honest… You could not bear to hit me, or did your hands slip just now?” Han Cheng asked with a smile, “It was actually thrown at my face, right? I didn’t expect you to be inaccurate, no one was hit. Are you particularly disappointed?”

Xia Tian couldn’t bear it anymore. He raised his head and laughed, his voice raspy. “No! It was just thrown on the ground, I… how could I dare to hit you.”

Don’t dare, nor willing to.

Being so angry, it was just for a moment.

Xia Tian’s cheeks flushed as he let go of Han Cheng and took a step back.

He was a little embarrassed and said, “How about… we pack our things and go home?”

Han Cheng narrowed his eyes slightly. “Still angry?”

“No.” Xia Tian had already vented and he said uncomfortably, “I, I don’t want to be here with Mr. Feng and the others…”

Han Cheng nodded. “I know you don’t want to.”

“So I want to go back…” Xia Tian looked at Han Cheng uncertainly, “Do you still want to be here?”

“What are you thinking about?” Han Cheng picked up the phone, “It shouldn’t be you leaving.”

Han Cheng called Du Ze and spoked to Xia Tian before the other party answered the call, “Even if you don’t want to play here, they have to go.”

“There is no reason for you to share the same space as them.”

  3. Well, it’s a start. I’m still pretty mad at how the situation went down and how Han Cheng did absolutely nothing in the moment to stop Xia Tian from getting those snide comments from the ex. I know it’s still a fake marriage for now, but there is an obligation nonetheless to defend your spouse and the younger generation from being bullied by some cheap floozy. I sincerely hope there’s more coming to that group than just being shooed out of the place. Xia Tian deserved respect and didn’t get any of that. This chapter wasn’t enough to make up for Han Cheng’s complete lack of reaction last chapter with regards to the ex. Han Cheng couldn’t have taken just a moment last chapter to demand that his spouse not be spoken to like that? Where are the promises this chapter that Han Cheng will stand beside him as a partner so it wont happen again with another ex or friend group? The root of the matter is it is indeed Han Cheng’s fault it happened based on being a playboy scum man in the past and a useless do-nothing person in the moment. What is the point in feeling a little bit bad for Xia Tian now if you don’t also promise it either won’t happen in the future or that you’ll actually do something to help in the moment if it should happen again? It’s just meaningless words without that necessary step of changing to be better. Being reactionary isn’t true change to be a better person- proactivity is. Like, some MLs do go way overboard in defending the MC with businesses destroyed and permanent harm inflicted on the cannon fodder villains for a relatively minor insult. I’m not expecting that from this story by any means. But it’s also extremely reasonable and normal for Han Cheng to have defended Xia Tian with that one supportive phrase and to completely cut himself loose from friend groups that are composed of the same scum men Han Cheng used to be so he doesn’t fall back into that same habit or have them come back to bite at Xia Tian later. Also appropriate would be a promise to do better next time.

It’s not like I don’t like the vast majority of this story! I just absolutely despise playboy characters and Han Cheng isn’t living up to my good partner expectations on a fundamental level with regards to that scum man past and not even giving Xia Tian that promise doesn’t give me a lot of hope that he’s changed his ways yet. I’m hoping next chapter proves me wrong!

Thanks for your hard work translating!

  4. Well, I guess this is a good way for Xia Tian to prove himself? No matter what Han Cheng say or do can’t ammend to what Feng Yize is saying and doing.
Also the event happened so fast, I don’t think even Han Cheng can respond appropriately.
Can’t really blame him. Although it’s true that his past is giving him the trouble.
Well, at least he’s troubled enough to coax Xia Tian and reprimand Du Ze. Also he still treats Feng Yize coldly, letting him know Xia Tian’s value.
And that final line is great. Yes, they should definitely out of their way.
Thank you for the translation ❤️

  5. Like i said before, Han Cheng needs to work hard to prove that he is worthy of Xia Tian. You are nowhere near there, Han Cheng. Keep working hard!
