The extended Lincoln sped along the highway, but the atmosphere inside the car remained heavy.

Mu’s mother conveyed Mr. Gu’s intentions from earlier to Mu Xingyu and expressed her dissatisfaction, saying, “Without obtaining a marriage certificate, are they belittling you by having you marry into their family? The Mu family isn’t after their wealth.”

Mu Xingyu didn’t mind it at all. After all, he was marrying Gu Yunzhou to make amends for the previous life, and he believed that, with the healing effects of the Spiritual water, Gu Yunzhou would recover quickly. If they obtained a marriage certificate now, but Gu Yunzhou later didn’t like him, they would have to go through the process of divorce.

Furthermore, Gu’s family would acknowledge his status, so it wasn’t as if he had nothing to his name when he married into the Gu family.

“Mom, as I said, I’m willing to marry Mr. Gu. Please don’t worry,” Mu Xingyu said, holding his mother’s hand and smiling.

“But…” Mu’s mother frowned but didn’t continue the argument.

Mu’s father, who had been silent, also asked, “Are you absolutely certain?”

Mu Xingyu nodded decisively. “I’ve thought it through.”

Mu’s father sighed. “Alright, we’ve said what we needed to. Although the Mu family can’t compare to the Gu family, no matter what happens, we’ll be your strong support.”

Mu Xingyu’s eyes welled up, and he threw himself into his father’s embrace.

After Mu family left, Dr. Charles was astonished to find that Gu Yunzhou’s condition had rapidly improved. His vital signs and neurological data were much better than before.

“It’s strange; his condition suddenly worsened earlier, but how can he be in such good shape now?” Dr. Charles couldn’t help muttering.

Lin Xiao, brought in the medication that was scheduled for lunch and, seeing Dr. Charles deep in thought, asked about Gu Yunzhou’s condition.

“Don’t worry; his condition is improving now, and he’s stable. If things continue this way, he might even wake up,” Dr. Charles said with a smile.

“Dr. Charles, is it really possible for Young Master to wake up?” Lin Xiao, asked in amazement.

“Of course. My father personally performed the craniotomy surgery(surgical procedure in which a part of the skull is temporarily removed to expose the brain and perform an intracranial procedure) on him. His condition has been consistently good, and all his bodily functions are normal. With ongoing treatment and his strong willpower, he’ll definitely wake up,” Dr. Charles stated firmly.

Dr. Charles’s father was a top international neurology expert. After Gu Yunzhou’s leg injury, his rehabilitation was overseen by Dr. Charles’s father. Over the course of the long rehabilitation, Charles and Gu Yunzhou got to know each other and became friends. Later, when Gu Yunzhou returned to China, Charles took over the rehabilitation work from his father.

After years of practicing medicine, Dr. Charles had seen various types of patients. However, he had never encountered someone who maintained such high-intensity work while still participating in daily rehabilitation, like Gu Yunzhou.

Rehabilitation is a painful process, both physically and mentally, but Gu Yunzhou persisted. Based on this determination, Dr. Charles believed that Gu Yunzhou would definitely wake up.

Upon hearing Dr. Charles’ words, Lin Xiao showed a happy expression but also had a profound look in his eyes when he glanced at Gu Yunzhou.

…

The next day, Mr. Gu arranged for Gu Yunzhou’s aunt to meet with Mr. Mu and Mrs. Mu to discuss the specifics of the wedding. Due to Gu Yunzhou’s unconscious state, the wedding would be kept simple.

As a gesture of apology, the Gu family promised to secure development rights for a piece of land in Shanghai for the Mu family and sent a set of W&W brand exclusive jewelry to Mrs. Mu.

They were also generous with Mu Xingyu and transferred 1% of Gu Yunzhou’s cloud tide technology company’s shares into Mu Xingyu’s name, which, with a simple signature, would make him an instant billionaire.

However, Mu Xingyu did not sign.

Mrs. Mu expressed her strong agreement, saying, “We’re marrying our son, not selling him.” She promptly returned all the gifts the Gu family had sent.

But these gifts were soon sent back by the Gu family.

Mr. Gu called Mr. Mu, saying, “Xingyu is marrying into the Gu family. In the future, our two families are one. Since Yunzhou can’t come in person due to his unconscious state, consider these gifts as the son-in-law’s way of apologizing.”

The Mu family had no choice but to accept the gifts.

The wedding date was quickly set for New Year’s Day.

It was now mid-December, and there wasn’t even half a month left until the wedding.

Mr. Mu and Mrs. Mu felt that the time was too tight, but Mr. Gu wanted Mu Xingyu to marry into the Gu family as soon as possible, so the date was settled.

Mu Xingyu also wanted to marry into the Gu family as soon as possible. Through experiments, he had already confirmed that the lotus flower could absorb life force to brew spiritual water.

Life force could come from any living being. He had previously conducted an experiment using an orchid and discovered that after absorbing the flower’s life force, the plant withered, while the lotus flower bud bloomed.

With this discovery, Mu Xingyu was eager to feed the spiritual liquid to Gu Yunzhou so that he could wake up sooner.

He was feeling happy about his discovery when he received a call from his agent.

“What’s going on with you? You injured your leg, and you still haven’t returned. Do you even want to continue acting?” As soon as the call connected, his agent, Qin Jie, scolded him.

Mu Xingyu furrowed his brows, suppressing his displeasure as he explained, “Qin Jie, Director Ye agreed that I could have a week off, and it’s only been five days.”

“Did you ever tell me when you were taking a break? Do you realize how much money it costs the production crew for every day of delay? Don’t think just because Mr. Andre recommended you to the crew, you can do as you please. You better come back tomorrow!”

Qin Jie’s harsh words caused Mu Xingyu’s expression to turn cold in an instant.

Qin Jie was his agent, and she didn’t have much status within the company. Moreover, she had received benefits from Feng Zian and not only failed to protect him but also created trouble for him at every turn.

However, when Qin Jie mentioned Andre, he found it strange. Was the request for him to return to the set coming from Feng Zian or Andre?

“Alright, I’ll return to the set tomorrow.” Mu Xingyu said and hung up the phone.

Due to his rebirth, the trajectory of his life in this world had already deviated from his previous life, and he was concerned that Andre might be plotting something behind the scenes.

Not long after, Xiao Wen also called, saying that Qin Jie had told them to return to the set tomorrow.

“I know, she called me just now,” Mu Xingyu replied.

Xiao Wen was very worried. “Xingyu Ge, is your injury okay? Will it affect the shooting? It’s not fair; the director already agreed that you could have some time off. Why does Qin Jie insist on you returning tomorrow? Besides, your role doesn’t have many scenes; you only need to focus for two days to catch up on the schedule.”

Mu Xingyu knew that Xiao Wen cared about him. He smiled slightly and said, “Xiao Wen, there’s something I need to discuss with you.”

“What’s going on?”

“There’s something going on at home, and I can’t continue with the filming. Tomorrow, I’ll explain it to the director. As for the company… I don’t think it’s necessary to waste my time at Fenghe.”

“Xingyu Ge, are you considering terminating your contract?” Xiao Wen was surprised, but upon reflection, he realized that Mu Xingyu came from an affluent family and didn’t need to endure hardships in the entertainment industry.

“Um, I’ll explain the details to you tomorrow. Be ready at home tomorrow morning; I’ll come to pick you up.”

The next morning, Mu Xingyu was about to leave, and his mother was surprised. “Where are you going?”

“I’m going to the film set.”

Mu’s mother quickly asked, “Going to act?”

Mu Xingyu shook his head, “No, I’m going to quit the role.”

“Why? I think you have what it takes to be a star,” Mu’s mother still hoped to see her son on the screen.

“No, it’s just that…”

Before Mu Xingyu could explain, his mother anxiously asked, “Are you worried about what the Gu family might think?”

“It’s not for that reason,” Mu Xingyu shook his head and helped his mother sit down. “After I marry Mr. Gu, I will need to take care of him, so I won’t have time for acting. Moreover, I’m not satisfied with the current production, and I’ll choose suitable scripts in the future.”

“I see. What kind of role do you want to play? Your dad and I can invest in it, and we’ll hire the best director,” Mu’s mother said excitedly.

Mu Xingyu smiled, “We’ll talk about it when the time comes.”

He chose his usual Audi A8 from the garage and drove to pick up Xiao Wen.

Xiao Wen had ridden in a Rolls-Royce last time and now was in an Audi A8; he felt like he was reaching the pinnacle of life.

Mu Xingyu, driving the car, couldn’t help but smile seeing how excited Xiao Wen was, and then he asked, “What are your plans after I terminate my contract with the company?”

Thinking of Mu Xingyu’s intention to terminate the contract, Xiao Wen felt disheartened. “Xingyu Ge, are you really going to terminate the contract?”

“Yes, you know the treatment I’ve received at the company. There’s no need to stay.”

“You’re right, Xingyu Ge. With your family’s background, you should go back to being a rich young man.”

“I really like acting, so if I have time in the future, I’ll return to the entertainment industry. What about you? What will you do after I leave?”

“Maybe I’ll be assigned to assist other new artists,” Xiao Wen was just an assistant, and the company didn’t value him much.

“How about this, after I terminate my contract, you become my personal assistant, with double the salary. First, help me manage my Weibo, and when I have free time, I’ll probably start a personal studio.”

“Really? Xingyu Ge, I’ll stick with you from now on!” Xiao Wen said excitedly.

Mu Xingyu and Xiao Wen arrived at the film set. Just as they entered, they noticed a scene had just wrapped, and the crew was clearing props. Mu Xingyu made his way through the crowd, planning to talk to Director Ye about quitting the role. However, the sharp-eyed Feng Zian saw him and immediately walked over.

“Xingyu, is your injury getting better? I didn’t know you were so delicate; you’ll have to be more careful when filming in the future.”

Feng Zian seemed to be expressing concern, but his words held an underlying accusation of Mu Xingyu being overly delicate.

Mu Xingyu had never gotten along with Feng Zian, and now that he was temporarily leaving the entertainment industry, he had no interest in maintaining a superficial relationship with him. He replied directly, “The reason I fell down the stairs was partly because of you, Feng Ge.”

“You fell on your own; don’t blame me,” Feng Zian made sure his actions had been discreet and wouldn’t leave any evidence.

Mu Xingyu retorted, “If you don’t want people to know, don’t do it yourself. In the future when filming, you should be more careful too. If you’re not as lucky as I am, you might…”

“Mu Xingyu, you dare to curse me!”

“Think whatever you want.” With that, Mu Xingyu walked toward Director Ye.

Xiao Wen suppressed a smile and quickly followed.

  1. I’m genuinely dissatisfied with the MC. He took no picture of injury or got doctors note to demand compensation from the crew. No retaliation against this Feng ZiAn dude. If he pays the termination fee, instead of investigating the company and countersuing, I’ll be pissed.
