Chapter 15

After Gu Yunzhou’s afternoon rest, Charles came in to give him a leg massage.

“Why is it you?” Gu Yunzhou frowned.

“Who else would it be?” Charles asked, suddenly recalling that it used to be Mu Xingyu who often gave massages to Gu Yunzhou. He couldn’t help but be curious, “Don’t tell me you thought it was Young Master Mu?”

Gu Yunzhou remained silent, his face stern.

Charles’s curiosity grew, “You seem to be quite interested in Mu Xingyu.”

“Enough, stop talking,” Gu Yunzhou coldly replied.

“Fine, I see you’re making a mountain out of a molehill. Well, is that an idiom?” Charles was fluent in Chinese in everyday conversation, almost making people forget he was a foreigner, but he still couldn’t fully grasp complex idioms.

Gu Yunzhou ignored Charles and wondered where Mu Xingyu had gone. Was he avoiding him?

As Charles continued massaging Gu Yunzhou’s legs, he continued, “You might not know this, but when you were unconscious, Mu Xingyu took great care of you.”

“Details,” Gu Yunzhou uttered.

Charles had known Gu Yunzhou for a long time and had a good understanding of his temperament. Although he wanted to know more, he had to maintain a distant facade.

“When he first arrived, we had initially arranged a separate room for him, but he insisted on sleeping with you, saying it would be more convenient to take care of you.”

“Really?” Gu Yunzhou raised an eyebrow.

“Can I lie to you? I really don’t know why Mu Xingyu is so good to you,” Charles teased.

Faced with Charles’s banter, Gu Yunzhou couldn’t help but slightly curl his lips and calmly said, “Go on.”

“Alright.” Charles continued to talk about Mu Xingyu.

Suddenly, Charles pressed a certain point on Gu Yunzhou’s knee, and Gu Yunzhou let out a small grunt, signaling him to press again.

Concerned, Charles asked, “What’s wrong? Do you feel something?” He pressed the same spot again.

Gu Yunzhou’s face finally revealed a hint of happiness, “There’s a bit of swelling.”

Charles was very pleased. Previously, Gu Yunzhou had no sensation in his legs, and he couldn’t believe that after waking up, his legs had regained some feeling.

Charles couldn’t help but be amazed, “Did you really remain unconscious for over a year? I almost doubt it. Do you have superhuman abilities?”

“Personal constitution,” Gu Yunzhou replied.

“Hmph, look at how happy you are,” Charles said unenthusiastically, continuing the massage while occasionally asking Gu Yunzhou if he feel any sensation.

The final result surprised Charles. Gu Yunzhou’s knee area had regained sensation. With continued rehabilitation, he might be able to stand again.

After the massage, Charles couldn’t wait to share this good news with Grandpa Gu. Upon hearing it, Grandpa Gu couldn’t stop smiling, feeling a mix of joy and relief.

“Grandpa, what’s making you so happy?” Mu Xingyu came back and heard Grandpa Gu’s laughter. He hurriedly inquired.

“Xingyu, you’re back. You won’t believe it. Charles just gave Yunzhou a massage, and his knees have regained sensation. It’s highly possible he’ll stand again in the future.”

“Really?” Mu Xingyu was also thrilled.

Charles promptly confirmed and expressed his surprise, “I have to say, Ethan’s recovery is outstanding. If I hadn’t been continually checking his body, I’d have suspected he had special abilities.”

Mu Xingyu couldn’t help but laugh, thinking it wasn’t that Gu Yunzhou had special abilities but rather the help of the spiritual water. However, he couldn’t reveal  it, so he playfully teased Charles, “I think it’s your excellent medical skills. Without your treatment, Mr. Gu’s condition wouldn’t have improved.”

“That’s right, thanks to you, Charles,” Grandpa Gu chimed in, making Charles a bit embarrassed.

After their conversation, Mu Xingyu returned to his room and found Gu Yunzhou sitting at his computer, typing with more ease compared to the day before.

When Gu Yunzhou heard the door open, he immediately looked up and asked Mu Xingyu, “Where did you go?”

“I went home, any problem with that?” Mu Xingyu raised an eyebrow.

Gu Yunzhou frowned but didn’t mention that Mu Xingyu hadn’t given him a massage. Instead, he said, “Next time you go home, tell me in advance.”

“Why?” Mu Xingyu inquired.

“I haven’t had the chance to meet my in-laws yet. You can bring them a gift as an apology,” Gu Yunzhou’s words were calm, but each word struck Mu Xingyu like lightning.

After a while, Mu Xingyu finally reacted, “What did you say? You… you want to give my parents gifts and call them…”

“In-laws. Is there a problem?”

“No problem.” Mu Xingyu shook his head. After all, he had married into the Gu family, so there was no issue with Gu Yunzhou calling his parents “in-laws.” However, the problem was how easily Gu Yunzhou was now calling them “in-laws.” Mu Xingyu wanted to ask: Gu Yunzhou, where’s your reserve?

He had already been surprised by Gu Yunzhou’s acceptance of their marriage, but now, addressing his parents with such intimacy, Mu Xingyu couldn’t fathom Gu Yunzhou’s thought process.

“Take your time, I won’t disturb you anymore,” Mu Xingyu now only wanted to calm himself down. He wasn’t someone who was emotionally complex, but in front of the reserved Gu Yunzhou, he was driven to talk to himself.

“Wait,” Gu Yunzhou called out to Mu Xingyu, “Pour me a glass of water.”

Mu Xingyu was trying hard not to engage with the patient’s whims and poured a glass of water, placing it on the bedside table.

Gu Yunzhou looked at him and said, “I can’t lift it.”

Mu Xingyu couldn’t believe that Gu Yunzhou, who had been typing moments ago, couldn’t even lift a glass. While he had his doubts, he picked up the glass, but instead of handing it to Gu Yunzhou, he went to the bathroom, poured out half of the water, and then placed it on the table. “Now you should be able to lift it,” he said before turning and leaving the room.

Gu Yunzhou: …

After the door was closed, Gu Yunzhou suddenly chuckled. If Mu Xingyu had been here, he would have been surprised. It turns out that the usually cold and stern Gu Yunzhou could also laugh.

Gu Yunzhou took out his phone and called Chen Feng, asking him to come over.

“Mr. Gu.”

“About what you were investigating, how’s it going?” After waking up, Gu Yunzhou had Chen Feng investigate his car accident. The incident had happened too suddenly, and he always felt there was something off.

His car was a customized Land Rover, capable of withstanding most impacts, even in a collision with a truck. However, when the accident occurred, the truck had veered from the right lane, directly hitting the Land Rover’s right rear side, using considerable force to push it onto the opposite lane.

The side of the Land Rover was severely damaged, and Gu Yunzhou had suffered a traumatic head injury due to the tremendous impact, leaving him in a coma.

After the accident, the traffic police investigation blamed the cause on the truck driver’s fatigue. But Gu Yunzhou found it too coincidental. The truck had hit the Land Rover precisely at its weak point without decelerating, and it seemed to have even accelerated, raising suspicions.

Previously, Grandpa Gu had investigated the accident’s cause, and since the driver died at the scene and there was no apparent intent, the police concluded that it was due to driver fatigue.

Now, Gu Yunzhou had Chen Feng re-investigate the case. Chen Feng discovered something suspicious. “Mr. Gu, the family of the driver involved in the accident went abroad at the end of last year. They are currently in Florida, the United States, but we still need to confirm their exact location.”

“Continue the investigation.”

“Yes, I’ll report back as soon as there are any results.”

“Keep an eye on Vice President He’s situation too.”

“We’ve already assigned someone to that.”

“Any leads on Lin Xiao’s situation?”

“None, not a trace left behind.”

Gu Yunzhou frowned. He had too many things to deal with. After a moment of silence, he changed the topic. “Tell me about… Mu Xingyu after I fell into a coma.”

“Mr. Gu, Grandpa Gu once had me investigate Young Master Mu. If you need, I can provide you with the investigation results.”

Gu Yunzhou furrowed his brow. He hadn’t expected his Grandpa to investigate Mu Xingyu, but it was in line with his Grandpa’s style. After all, Mu Xingyu was his partner, and Grandpa Gu wanted to understand everything before allowing Mu Xingyu by his side.

However, he didn’t want Mu Xingyu to know about the investigation, and if Mu Xingyu saw the results, it might upset him. So he shook his head and said, “No need. Just give me the key points.”

So, Chen Feng selected some key points and explained to Gu Yunzhou, “After you fell into a coma, the old master intended to have Young Master Mu married here. Young Master Mu was probably not happy with it and used a trip as an excuse, but in reality, it was an attempt to escape the marriage.” At this point, Chen Feng noticed that Gu Yunzhou wasn’t pleased, so he quickly continued, “During the trip, Mu Young was discovered by talent scouts, and he entered the entertainment industry. However, due to Young Master Mu hiding his identity, he wasn’t treated well on set and even had a fall on a staircase during filming…”

“Was it severe?” Gu Yunzhou sat up straight and asked.

“It was okay. Afterward, Mu Young returned to the Mu family and came to visit you. He took the initiative to say that he wanted to marry into the Gu family.”

“He volunteered?”

“Yes, originally, when the old master found out that he didn’t want to, he had given up. But he didn’t expect Young Master Mu to change his mind.”

Gu Yunzhou’s mood improved. When he first woke up, Grandpa Gu had mentioned that Mu Xingyu had voluntarily agreed to marry into the Gu family. Now, Chen Feng’s confirmation made him even happier.

In the evening, when Mu Xingyu was giving Gu Yunzhou his medicine, he noticed a change in Gu Yunzhou. It seemed like… he wasn’t as cold as before.

Mu Xingyu guessed that it might be because of the regained sensation in Gu Yunzhou’s knee.

Gu Yunzhou, for the first time, said something that was out of character, “Thank you. Thank you for taking care of me during this time.”

Mu Xingyu was absolutely astonished.

As he lay down beside Gu Yunzhou, perhaps due to not sleeping well the previous night, he quickly drifted off to dreamland.

Gu Yunzhou turned to look at him, and this scene felt especially familiar, as if he had seen Mu Xingyu sleeping by his side when he was in a coma. The more he thought about it, the more it seemed real, although at that time, he was intermittently waking up, thinking it was all a dream.

He reached his hand out from under the blanket and touched Mu Xingyu’s cheek, doing something he couldn’t do at all back then.

“It’s real,” he thought. Mu Xingyu’s cheek was soft, and Gu Yunzhou couldn’t resist gently caressing it.

In his dreams, Mu Xingyu found the warmth on his cheek very comfortable and unconsciously nuzzled against it, making Gu Yunzhou smile.

…

The next day, Mu Xingyu, as usual, had breakfast and then went for a walk in the garden. The lotus flowers were still absorbing vitality when Aunt Chu hurriedly called him back.

“What’s going on?”

“Young Master Mu , Mr. Gu insisted on getting out of bed. You should go check on him.”

Mu Xingyu knew that Gu Yunzhou was having some issues again, so he retrieved the bracelet and, along with Aunt Chu, went to the fourth floor.

In the room, a male nurse was trying to convince Gu Yunzhou, “Mr. Gu, you can’t get out of bed yet, and even if you use a wheelchair, you won’t be able to bathe by yourself.”

“Bathe?” Mu Xingyu asked in confusion.

“Young Master Mu , I’m supposed to help Mr. Gu wash up, but he insists on going to the bathroom himself.”

Once Mu Xingyu understood the situation, he quickly advised, “Mr. Gu, you haven’t regained your strength yet. It’s better to let the nurse help you.”

“I’m not comfortable with strangers.”

“He also helped you before…” Before he could finish, he saw the displeased look on Gu Yunzhou’s face and quickly retracted his words, then asked Aunt Chu, “Who helped him yesterday? If someone could assist him yesterday, they should be able to continue today.”

“It was Chen Feng, but he’s gone out today,” Aunt Chu replied hurriedly.

Once again, Mu Xingyu felt that the post-awakening Gu Yunzhou was becoming more and more difficult to handle. He had to take the initiative, “How about I help you wash? Is that okay?”

Gu Yunzhou glanced at Mu Xingyu and reluctantly nodded.

Author’s Note: Mu Xingyu: “Reluctantly?”

Gu Yunzhou: “No, ecstatic, but I dare not say it.”
