Chapter 11

The next day, Mu Xingyu woke up and found himself right next to Gu Yunzhou, which startled him, causing him to sit up quickly.

What’s going on?

Although he had been sharing a bed with Gu Yunzhou, he always slept very quietly and never disturbed Gu Yunzhou. But today, they were pressed closely together, and from their positions, it seemed like he had moved to Gu Yunzhou’s side.

“I hope I didn’t crush you,” Mu Xingyu said with some concern.

Before having breakfast, he called Charles over to examine him.

“Have you done something to him?” Charles asked, noticing Mu Xingyu’s guilty look.

“Charles, what are you thinking? I’m just worried about him… His finger moved yesterday, and I was concerned that there might be new developments today,” Mu Xingyu hurriedly explained.

But Charles clearly didn’t believe him, leaving Mu Xingyu somewhat helpless.

After the examination, Gu Yunzhou was perfectly fine, and Mu Xingyu finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Later, Mu Xingyu fed Gu Yunzhou with the spiritual water as usual and went to the garden to absorb life energy.

At this moment, Chen Feng approached him and whispered, “Young Master Mu, this morning the surveillance team we placed on housekeeper Lin’s house found some drugs in his safe. The samples have been given to Dr Charles, and we should have results soon.”

Lin Xiao was the butler of the Gu family and was highly regarded due to Mr. Gu’s trust and the family’s status. He had his own house in Beijing and usually went home every week. Last night was Chinese New Year’s Eve, and Mr. Gu had specifically allowed him to go home and be with his family.

After Lin Xiao left his home this morning, the surveillance team entered to check the situation and unexpectedly made a discovery.

“Could the drugs in his home be meant for Mr. Gu?” Mu Xingyu expressed his concern.

“I don’t know, but Charles has examined Mr. Gu’s condition today, and everything appears normal.”

Mu Xingyu’s thoughts were in chaos, but after hearing Chen Feng’s words, he finally felt relieved. Charles conducted routine checkups every day, so if Lin Xiao had poisoned Gu Yunzhou, Charles would surely detect it.

In the afternoon, Charles brought the test results to Mu Xingyu.

“These pills don’t show any visible flaws on the outside, but inside, they contain only things like water and flour, with no therapeutic effect,” Charles explained.

“So, you’re saying that these drugs are all fake?”

“Yes.”

Mu Xingyu couldn’t figure out why Butler Lin used fake drugs, but suddenly he remembered and asked Charles, “Who usually manages Mr. Gu’s medication?”

Charles furrowed his brow. Although he was responsible for the medication, the daily task of feeding Gu Yunzhou was carried out by a nurse. Sometimes, he would hand the medicine to Lin Xiao to give to the nurse.

“Quickly check Mr. Gu’s medication!” Mu Xingyu urged.

Understanding the gravity of the situation, Charles promptly followed Mu Xingyu’s request. By dinner time, he had the test results in hand.

At the moment, Mu Xingyu and Grandpa Gu were having dinner. When Charles approached with a serious look, Mu Xingyu knew that something had gone wrong.

“Dr. Charles, what’s going on?” Grandpa asked, thinking something was wrong with his son, worriedly inquired.

“Grandpa, please stay calm,” Mu Xingyu took the results from Charles and after examining them, he too had a grim expression. Lin Xiao was present in the living room, and without avoiding his presence, Mu Xingyu handed the test results to Mr. Gu. “Grandpa, please take a look.”

Because Mr. Gu had inquired about the medication Gu Yunzhou was taking due to his condition, he quickly noticed that all the medications on the test report were those Gu Yunzhou had been taking.

On the test report, there were a total of thirteen types of medications, and eight of them were found to have no therapeutic effect, containing components such as water and flour.

With a broad knowledge of various matters, Mr. Gu instantly guessed, “What happened with this examination? Are all the medications we sent for testing those that Yunzhou has been taking?”

There was still a glimmer of hope in Mr. Gu’s heart, but Charles’s words made him confront the harsh reality.

“Grandpa, it’s my fault; someone tampered with the medication,” Mu Xingyu said as well. “Grandpa, today Dr. Charles and I discovered that there was an issue with the medication, so we sent it for testing, and the results…”

“I understand,” Mr. Gu, a titan of the business world with a lifetime of experience, quickly calmed down and asked seriously, “Who tampered with the medication? Do you know?”

Mu Xingyu looked at Lin Xiao, who was standing nearby, and said, “Butler Lin, at a time like this, aren’t you going to say anything?”

“Young Master Mu, what do you mean? Are you suspecting me of replacing Young Master’s medication?” Lin Xiao retorted with dissatisfaction.

Mu Xingyu had to admit that Lin Xiao remained remarkably calm in such a dire situation. He glanced at Chen Feng, who promptly placed the items obtained from Lin Xiao’s house on the dining table.

“These are the items we found in your house. Do you have anything to say?” Mu Xingyu asked.

Lin Xiao was quite shocked, not expecting Mu Xingyu to find evidence so quickly. Perhaps Mu Xingyu had been suspicious for a while, and he had been unaware of it.

Mr. Gu, with an exceptionally stern gaze, turned his eyes on Butler Lin. “Lin Xiao, I never expected that you’d be the one behind this. You’ve been with me for over thirty years, and I trusted you so much. But you actually dared to harm Yunzhou. Tell me, what was your motive?”

“Master, I had no other choice. Someone used my family as leverage, forcing me to switch the medication,” Lin Xiao said, his tone filled with sorrow.

“Who threatened you?” Mr. Gu asked.

Lin Xiao shook his head. “I can’t say. If I do, my family won’t survive.”

“Are you not afraid that I might kill your family?” Mr. Gu slammed the table, angered.

Lin Xiao quickly knelt on the ground and begged, “Master, I will take responsibility for my actions. Considering I’ve been with you for over thirty years, please spare my family.”

“You’re wrong; I’ve never been a kind person, especially considering you dared to harm Yunzhou,” Mr. Gu spoke sternly. He ordered Chen Feng to take immediate action and bring people to search Lin Xiao’s home.

Lin Xiao was terrified and finally revealed, “It was done by a competitor of the Gu family.”

Mu Xingyu frowned and was about to counter, but at that moment, Lin Xiao suddenly let out a painful cry and collapsed on the ground.

Chen Feng quickly approached, checked Lin Xiao’s breathing, and found a swollen mark on the back of his neck. He realized that Lin Xiao had been implanted with a neural control chip.

“Sir, he has a neural control chip implanted,” Chen Feng reported.

Mr. Gu’s expression darkened. As a family with its roots in technology, he knew well about the capabilities of neural control chips.

These chips, once implanted in a person’s neck, could control their neural functions. When activated, a powerful electric current would instantly damage a person’s neural system, essentially turning them into a fool.

Mr. Gu knew that he wouldn’t get any more answers from Lin Xiao, so he ordered Lin Xiao to be taken to the police station and had Chen Feng investigate anyone who had recently been in contact with Lin Xiao to find any leads.

Mu Xingyu watched as Lin Xiao was taken away, his heart filled with lingering anger. He despised Lin Xiao but was unaware that Lin Xiao had been forced by Andre to take such actions. Capturing Lin Xiao might have alerted Andre, and he worried that Andre might do something even more atrocious.

“Xingyu, let’s go upstairs and check on Yunzhou,” Mr. Gu suggested, displaying a hint of weariness due to Lin Xiao’s betrayal.

Mu Xingyu hurriedly approached and supported Mr. Gu as they both went to the fourth floor.

In front of Mr. Gu, Charles conducted another examination on Yunzhou. He then said, “Mr. Gu, everything is perfectly fine with Ethan. Please put your mind at ease.”

“Yes, Grandpa, the medication that was switched out doesn’t have any therapeutic effects, but it doesn’t contain harmful substances either. Please don’t worry too much,” Mu Xingyu added, trying to reassure him.

At this point, Mu Xingyu couldn’t help but feel grateful that Andre hadn’t given Yunzhou any poisoned medication.

Learning from the lesson of Lin Xiao, Mr. Gu immediately strengthened the security at the Gu estate that night. He also conducted thorough investigations of all the staff, including the maids, nurses, and bodyguards, to eliminate any potential spies.

Charles destroyed all the medications and returned to the UK to bring back new ones.

Even after dealing with Lin Xiao, Mu Xingyu couldn’t shake off his unease. He had a gut feeling that something was about to happen. So, he increased his visits to the garden, absorbing more life force and preparing more spiritual liquid, hoping for Yunzhou to wake up sooner.

Due to his concerns about Mr. Gu’s health, Mu Xingyu secretly added a drop of spiritual liquid to Mr. Gu’s tea every day, which visibly improved Mr. Gu’s well-being.

Soon, it was Mu Dad’s birthday, and it was Mu Xingyu’s first time coming back home since getting married.

“Good boy, let Mom take a look if you’ve lost weight,” Mu Mom was delighted to see Mu Xingyu and couldn’t resist showering him with questions and affection.

Mu Xingyu handed his carefully prepared gift to Mu Dad, who asked, “How’s Mr. Gu’s condition these days?”

“He’s much better. His fingers moved again these past couple of days, so at this rate, he’ll wake up soon,” Mu Xingyu replied.

“That’s great.”

In preparation for Mu Xingyu’s homecoming, Mu Mom had instructed the kitchen to prepare his favorite dishes from the early morning.

Mu Xingyu enjoyed the home-cooked food, feeling deeply content. He also expressed his regret over his foolish actions from the previous life during the meal.

In the meantime, he subtly inquired about the situation of Mu Dad’s company and breathed a sigh of relief upon learning that everything was running smoothly.

Mu Dad teased, “Why the sudden interest in the company? Have you had a change of heart and want to help your father?”

Mu Xingyu quickly shook his head.

Mu Mom chimed in, “You’ve already admitted our son isn’t cut out for business. I hope he returns to the entertainment industry soon so I can see my star, Xingyu, on the screen again.”

Mu Xingyu chuckled helplessly, amazed at his mother’s unwavering desire for him to return to the world of stardom.

After the meal, Mu Dad had important matters to attend to at the company, while Mu Mom opened her phone’s microblog and introduced people from her following list to Mu Xingyu.

“Look, this is Director Fang, he won a major award at the Cannes Film Festival. And this is Director Song, he directed the highest-grossing film last year…”

Mu Xingyu couldn’t help but interrupt, saying, “Mom, why are you introducing them to me?”

“Which director do you want to collaborate with? Mom will get in touch with them for you.”

Mu Xingyu chuckled, “Mom, it’s not necessary. I’m not planning to work in films right now. Besides, these are all top directors, and I’m not guaranteed to catch their attention.”

“What are you saying? My son is definitely the best! Don’t worry; I’ll invest in your projects. I believe these directors won’t refuse you.”

Mu Xingyu sighed, wondering why his mother was so enthusiastic about him returning to acting.

At that moment, Chen Feng suddenly called him, sounding quite urgent, ” Young Master Mu, Mr. Gu is in the hospital.”

Mu Xingyu was perplexed, as Grandpa Gu had been in good health after consuming the spiritual liquid.

” Young Master Mu, I’ll explain later. Please come over right away.”

“Alright, I’ll come immediately.”

Seeing that Mu Xingyu’s expression turned serious, Mu Mom asked, “What happened?”

Mu Xingyu explained the situation regarding Grabdpa Gu being hospitalized, which also made Mu Mom quite concerned. They headed to the hospital together.

On the way, Mu Xingyu called Chen Feng again and finally learned the reason behind Grandpa Gu’s hospitalization.

After Yunzhou fell into a coma, Vice President He Wenhao had been managing Gu Industries, and he was a long-serving and trusted employee of the company. After taking over Gu Industries, He Wenhao had performed his duties diligently, and there were no major issues.

However, shortly after the new year, He Wenhao was reported for embezzling company assets and was taken away by the relevant authorities.

As soon as Mr. Gu heard about this, he rushed to the company. He discovered that He Wenhao had embezzled over a hundred million dollars, and the evidence was irrefutable. This revelation left him so infuriated that he fainted on the spot.

If it weren’t for Grandpa Gu’s good health, this situation could have taken a much worse turn.

  1. I feel like “Mu Dad” and “Mu Mom” sounds kind of strange, so I suggest using “Father Mu” and “Mother Mu” instead!

On the other hand, no doubt Andre is behind everything!
