Chapter 1 – The Ge’er from Dayun who traversed into modern times.

Longfeng Entertainment.

In a not-too-large office lounge, a middle-aged man with a cigarette in his mouth lazily flipped through a few pages of paper.

Sitting askew on the boss’s chair, he occasionally fidgeted and swivelled around.

“Xiao Yan, you’ve been with the company for three years now. Although your performance is average, you haven’t made any major mistakes, so the higher-ups still have high hopes for you.”

The middle-aged man suddenly sat up straight, raised his head and sternly looked at the boy standing obediently in front of him with his triangular eyes, saying, “However, your recent negative attitude has disappointed me!”

“If you have any opinions about the position the company has assigned you, you can tell me directly. Why intentionally sabotage the stage performance?”

He raised his hand to pinch the cigarette that was almost burnt out in his mouth, then pressed it forcefully into the glass ashtray before starting to speak intensely.

“You didn’t sing, luckily Leader Yu covered for you; you stood still and didn’t dance, thankfully Xiao You in front was quick-witted and blocked the camera for you; fortunately, these performances weren’t live, so your part can be edited out…”

“Now, SAP’s visibility in the company’s marketing is steadily rising. If you continue to mess around, it will affect the entire boy group!”

Wang Shigang became somewhat agitated as he continued, standing up and continuing his impassioned speech.

As the manager of the newly formed boy group SAP, he was the most qualified to handle these rebellious young boys.

Yan Shu was a kid he picked up midway, who was forced into the SAP group for training.

When this kid first joined the company, he was still underage, as white as paper. Wang Shigang never had high expectations for Yan Shu’s capabilities because just having his face in front of the camera won half the battle.

Although Yan Shu was set as a vase in terms of role, even a vase should have professional ethics. Stay calm when needed and for heaven’s sake, move your butt when you’re on stage, don’t just stand there like a rock!

You might have poor singing and dancing skills, but you can’t completely pretend you don’t know anything!

The manager was passionately “lecturing”, while the so-called kid he had picked up was at that moment—

Lost in thought.

Even though it had been a week since he arrived in this world, and his mind had gradually digested the necessary knowledge, Yan Shu still felt dazed every day.

This… was actually not a dream.

He had just dozed off in the pavilion in the backyard of his own mansion, and when he opened his eyes again, he found himself on a dazzling stage, surrounded by music he couldn’t understand, every drumbeat and rhythm causing pain in his eardrums.

Yan Shu recalled the situation at that time, standing there in a daze, watching strangers around him in strange costumes singing and dancing.

From that moment on, memories in this body began flooding into his mind like madness.

The concept of the “modern world” unfolded before him like a scroll.

In just an instant, it felt as if he had wandered through a scroll all night, instinctively absorbing things he didn’t understand.

When he snapped out of it, he finally understood that he had crossed over.

From the ancient Dayun Dynasty to the modern “Yan Shu”.

The original owner and himself shared the same name and surname; he was a signed male idol in a boy group.

His reputation online wasn’t great, facing numerous haters just a year into his debut.

Yan Shu’s sudden crossing over caused more backlash for the already unpopular original owner.

Now, all this criticism and pressure had to be borne by Yan Shu himself.

As a skilled ge’er craftsman from Dayun, how could Yan Shu adapt to the singing and dancing style of modern idols?

From his first day here, he had made frequent mistakes in various stage performances.

He swore he didn’t mean to sabotage the performances!

Clearly, his level was completely different from the original owner’s, yet no one believed that there had been a change in the essence of “Yan Shu”.

After all, this whole thing was so bizarre that even modern people writing time-travel novels or making sci-fi movies wouldn’t think it could actually happen to someone.

Indoors, the smell of cigarettes mixed with the air conditioning made it hard for Yan Shu to open his eyes.

The manager, Wang Shigang, was a heavy smoker, and the office was often filled with smoke.

Yan Shu didn’t quite understand this modern habit, but he showed respect.

Recently, Yan Shu had been absorbing modern knowledge in large quantities through the internet. Combined with the memories given by the original owner, he could barely manage to appear calm and collected in front of others, dealing with people or things he didn’t understand with silence and a calm expression.

Fortunately, the company had given him a character setting of a cold and indifferent vase. He didn’t need to speak much, thus perfectly concealing all the various activities in his heart.

Shocked, curious, embarrassed, awkward—all were hidden beneath this cool exterior.

The original owner was criticised by many netizens for this aloof appearance.

People around here seemed to call this—

Pretentious?

“Yan Shu! Are you even listening to me!?”

Although delayed, Wang Shigang’s shout finally reached him.

Yan Shu shuddered slightly, enduring the harm of secondhand smoke, and lifting his eyes, reddened from the smoke, “Hmm?”

“…” Wang Shigang was so angry he forgot his words.

This kid had indeed been a bit too arrogant lately!

His mouth was dry from talking, but the other person seemed lost in space!

Wang Shigang decided to skip the heartfelt words of advice and stuffed the crumpled pages from his hand into Yan Shu’s arms.

“I’ve arranged a young master role in a period drama for you, a cannon fodder, only need to appear a few times.”

“Acting…?”

Impatiently, Wang Shigang nodded, “If you can’t sing and dance well, put that on hold for now. Your face is marketable, don’t waste it. Act well for me, got it!”

“Oh.”

Yan Shu had no choice now. Holding the pages, he quickly escaped the “secondhand smoke” place.

Once out of that room, Yan Shu’s lungs finally felt free.

During November in Jing City1It actually means Capital city, and in historic records, Beijing was actually known as the Northern Capital while Nanjing was the Southern Capital. Let’s just go with the pinyin of the word that was used in the raws. However, I might accidentally slip up and type Beijing instead if I am not paying attention, all the buildings had heating.

As Yan Shu walked out of the Longfeng Entertainment Group’s headquarters, his body, warmed by the heating, immediately reacted.

His hair stood on end, like a startled cat.

Forgetting to put on a coat, he ventured into the cold wind with only a hoodie, his breath spraying out and condensing into white vapour.

Wang Shigang talked to him for too long, and the sky was almost dark.

Yan Shu’s stomach had been rumbling incessantly, and now felt empty.

After a brief moment of “freedom”, his first thought was to go eat a bowl of hot and sour noodles.

Dayun didn’t have such heavy-flavoured food; their meals were mostly light. The first food he ate here was hot and sour noodles.

At that time, Yan Shu found it novel, his mouth burning red, but he couldn’t stop eating.

Typical of not being able to handle spicy food well, yet always eager to try.

The manager didn’t allow their group members to eat these kinds of food; the company provided specially tailored fat-reducing meals for the artists.

Yan Shu only obediently ate the group meals under Wang Shigang’s watchful eye.

He had never thought that he would need a chance to leave the entertainment industry.

Yan Shu was well aware that this job wasn’t suitable for him.

A ge’er from Dayun wasn’t cut out for physical labour, so the week here had exhausted him.

Accustomed to the quiet life back at the mansion, sometimes spending the day sewing with needle and thread, time would pass quickly for Yan Shu, finding staying at home not boring at all.

He still preferred embroidery over the various performances and engagements he had to do now.

In this world, the entertainment industry seemed highly regarded, in sharp contrast to the humble status of actors in Dayun.

Here, successful artists earned high salaries…

“Payment failed!” the mechanical female voice rang out coldly.

[“Insufficient account balance”] displayed on the phone screen.

Yan Shu had already learned the modern way of paying, and as he skillfully picked up his phone to pay the bill as usual, a little incident occurred.

He had no money left.

There were only four yuan and five cents left in his card.

In the week he had been here, Yan Shu hadn’t spent much money.

Where had the money earned by the original owner in the three years at Longfeng Entertainment gone?

Even if he wasn’t a successful artist, he shouldn’t be in a situation where he couldn’t afford a meal, right?

Yan Shu carefully searched through the memories of the original owner and found that the money had been deducted by the management company, and the little money left had been sent back to his hometown. All that was left for himself were these few coins.

At this moment, Yan Shu’s heart felt colder than the chilly wind outside.

He couldn’t even have hot and sour noodles now…

“Young man, do you still want the hot and sour noodles?” The shop owner was busy with his hands, but still asked in a friendly tone.

“Um, sorry, I don’t…”

“Give him a bowl.”

A deep voice interrupted what Yan Shu was about to say.

A distinct jointed hand reached out from behind, and Yan Shu’s peripheral vision only caught a glimpse of a black phone, then a “beep” by his ear indicated a successful payment scan.

“Alright! Both of you, help yourselves to the green onions and coriander, they’re in that condiment area! Find a seat, and we’ll bring it to you in a moment!” The shop owner cheerfully shouted, pointing to a few small condiment bowls nearby.

Two people…

It was only now that Yan Shu truly saw the appearance of the man behind him.

Sharp eyebrows, starry eyes, deep and sharp gaze, well-defined features, a tall and towering figure exuding an aura of authority.

The man was wearing a black baseball cap, deliberately covering his eyebrows.

However, Yan Shu was slightly shorter than him, and when he looked up, he met the man’s features head-on.

With such a handsome and refined appearance, even more dashing than Dayun’s most handsome young master, Yan Shu had never seen someone so good-looking.

He stood frozen in place for a moment.

It wasn’t until the man, ignoring him, walked over to a table in the corner and sat down that Yan Shu snapped out of it and hurriedly followed.

“Thank you, sir… I mean, thank you for paying for me. I, I’ll repay you tomorrow…”

Yan Shu hesitated, wondering if repaying tomorrow was too late?

He quickly changed his mind, “I’ll pay you back tonight when I get home!”

“You don’t need to repay.” The man didn’t even lift his head, his fingers tapping on the phone, the baseball cap covering most of his face, seemingly intentionally avoiding something.

The man had expected some sort of insistence from the other person, like, “How can that be?” “I’ll treat you next time”, “Let’s exchange WeChat”, and similar phrases.

After all, due to his face and status, he had encountered too many situations where people approached him.

However, the person in front of him just paused for a few seconds and quickly said, “Oh, okay.”

Yan Shu tactfully left without sitting with the man, moving to another inconspicuous corner, sitting down and rubbing his hands that had frozen outside.

Finally, he clasped his hands together and silently expressed gratitude: The gentleman was handsome, generous, and kind-hearted; may he have a peaceful life.

“Achoo!” At a nearby table, the famous Movie Emperor2basically a famous actor that won best actor award Wei sneezed.

His nose was a bit itchy, and he raised his hand to scratch it.

It must be that “old fossil” at home who had just argued with him, scolding him.

What was supposed to be a nice family dinner had ended prematurely because of the argument between him and his father.

A rare vacation, but not spent very comfortably.

Getting a bit carried away, he even forgot to wear his mask.

Passing through Yuanlin Street, enticed by the aroma of the street food stalls, he found himself entering one.

Thinking of queuing up to buy a bowl of noodles, the young boy in front of him was taking his time, muttering something from time to time, which he couldn’t quite make out.

The boy’s back was slender, dressed in a thin hoodie, with the back of his head looking round and cute, fluffy hair, very voluminous, and his fair neck exposed to the air.

Behind his right ear, there was a bright red mole, contrasting with his milky skin, making it even more striking.

The boy was almost a head shorter than him.

Wei Tingxiao didn’t intend to pry into someone’s privacy, but his vision was too good, catching sight of the remaining balance of four yuan and five cents in the other person’s card with just a quick glance.

No wonder he was taking so long.

The boy seemed to realize he couldn’t afford the meal, the fluffy hair at the back of his head visibly drooping.

Amused by the scene, Wei Tingxiao, almost involuntarily, decided to take action.

Well, let’s pay for this young boy; his drool might end up in the pot if he stood there any longer.
