At around 1:00 a.m., Sheng Jing was pushed out of the operating room and was out of danger. Unfortunately, there might be some complications with his legs in the future.

Sheng Guang was still in the same state, having still not washed his face. The blood had all dried up, but he paid no heed to it. He asked the person on the bed in a hoarse voice, “We’re not Dad’s biological children, aren’t we?”

Sheng Jing had his eyes closed, seemingly indifferent—more like numb—to Sheng Guang’s first words after he woke up, those of which were not of concern towards him.

Sheng Guang was in turmoil. “Are you going to talk?”

Sheng Jing moved his bloodless lips and said, “Yes.”

Sheng Guang ran to the bed and tried to grab the young man’s clothes, but he suddenly remembered something and his face turned pale. He asked, “When did you know?”

Sheng Jing said, “About seven or eight years ago.”

Sheng Guang was stunned for a long while, then he laughed out loud. “Alright, Sheng Jing, you’re really good. So I’m the idiot.”

“But over the years, you’ve always been high and mighty, and you’ve seen quite a few jokes at my expense so this one won’t make a difference.”

Sheng Jing heard the footsteps and asked, “What are you gonna do?”

“Nothing.” Sheng Guang stopped at the door, holding the door handle. His fingertips tightened and he said, “I didn’t ask you to save me, you rushed over on your own.”

After he finished speaking, his breathing paused for a moment. What he wanted to say was thank you, but little did he know that once he opened his mouth, the words would change into something else.

Sheng Guang’s face was pale and he didn’t know how to explain himself when he heard a calm voice from behind him, “Yeah, I volunteered, so you don’t need to blame yourself.”

With a bang, Sheng Guang slammed the door and walked out.

Sheng Jing’s eyelids opened and slowly closed again. He mockingly smiled at himself.

A few days later, Sheng Guang showed up at the hospital with a fruit basket in hand and a slim and beautiful girl by his side. He said, “This is my girlfriend.”

Sheng Jing looked at Sheng Guang. Sheng Guang was also looking at him. What was hidden and what was revealed in their interlocking gazes, only they knew.

Sheng Guang understood.

Just as Sheng Jing had dashed onwards with no mind for his safety to save him, so had he come today to break the other’s thoughts.

The nurse at the nurse station handed him a piece of paper and said, “This is what the patient asked me to pass on to you.”

Sheng Guang spread out the paper, and there was only one sentence on it: I’m leaving, goodbye.

The little yellow dog tilted its head back and howled as if it was crying.
