Days later, Mr. Qian lay on his bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

A shadow swiftly passed along the edge of the bed, the moonlight outlining the blurry figure of a black cat.

Mr. Qian gripped the blanket in fear, his eyes suddenly stinging as tears welled up.

“Please, spare me…” Mr. Qian choked out.

The black cat stood at the head of the bed, its glowing green eyes coldly fixed on him.

A chill ran through Mr. Qian.

But thinking of his vast wealth, amidst the endless dark despair in his heart, a glimmer of hope rose involuntarily. He looked at the black cat eagerly and suggested, “As long as you spare me, I can give you however much money you want! Or, I can burn a female cat for you, how about that?”

The black cat let out a cold laugh, crouched down, and leisurely licked its paw.

Mr. Qian rambled on, but the black cat continued grooming itself, never once glancing in his direction.

As Mr. Qian spoke and cried, he eventually took on a tone of self-abandonment, “What do you want from me?”

Only then did the black cat deign to reply, “I want your life.”

Mr. Qian laughed, but his smile was more grim than his tears, “Even death is better than being in this state between life and death!”

As he spoke, a surge of anger rose within Mr. Qian, and he suddenly tore open his nightshirt.

Inside the shirt, his body was covered in black patches, surrounded by a ring of decaying flesh. As Mr. Qian pulled his shirt open, pus began to ooze out.

A nauseating stench filled the room.

The black cat, showing no mercy in its gaze, stated coldly, “You deserve this fate.”

“I deserve this, I deserve this… Haha…” Mr. Qian laughed wildly, his eyes wide as he muttered to himself, “If you want this life, then take it.”

A flash of light passed through the black cat’s eyes, “You said it.”

Before Mr. Qian could react, the black cat’s black claws on its right paw extended several times their length, a dark light flashed, and a thin, blood-red line appeared on Mr. Qian’s neck.

As Su Ling entered the company, he inexplicably felt a sense of being out of favor.

Meng Xiaoman held a small dried fish, happily teasing a certain little ball, “Want to eat? If you want to eat, then act cute for jiejie1big sister. Not necessarily related. Just for referring to a girl older than oneself~”

The Silkworm Baby immediately lost all dignity and rolled on the ground.

Wu Pan watched with a smile, holding a small bamboo ball with bells attached and teasing, “Sing a song and I’ll let you play.”

The Silkworm Baby tilted its head, laboriously propping up its half body, and cheerfully sang “Guji guji.”

After eating their fill of cuteness and playing enough, the Silkworm Baby finally climbed down from the table, trotted over, and affectionately rubbed against Sheng Ze’s leg.

Sheng Ze lazily patted its head, “Good.”

The Silkworm Baby let out a couple of “Gujis,” its face red, proud and happy as it rolled around.

—One pat from Sheng Ze was more effective than their snacks and toys.

Meng Xiaoman felt quite emotional, “Tsk tsk, even a pet can be so adaptable.”

Shi Kongzang stroked his chin, deep in thought, “But the way this ball acts, I can’t shake the feeling of familiarity…”

The two ghosts exchanged a glance, a hint of fear in their eyes.

Meng Xiaoman shivered, refusing to admit, “I definitely am not this flattering!”

Shi Kongzang chimed in at the same time, “I definitely am not this much of a lackey!”

Watching from the sidelines, Su Ling:…

Back then, he was at least the core figure in the company, the only target of all the staff’s efforts to please. But now, he had been standing here for so long, and no one had even noticed!

Su Ling held his broken heart gingerly, drifting towards the office with melancholy.

It was indeed Sheng Ze who first noticed him.

Setting aside the sticky and coquettish Silkworm Baby, Sheng Ze asked with concern, “Boss, why are you late today?”

Su Ling was moved, almost tearing up, “Overslept.”

Sheng Ze looked even more worried at his words, “Ghosts have very regular schedules, suddenly oversleeping, could it be an issue with your soul?”

Su Ling felt relieved in his heart and waved his hand, “It’s fine, probably just hitting puberty.”

When a ghost lives to a certain year, some natural changes occur within their bodies. These changes are not considered major events; strictly speaking, they are more like a form of evolution that makes the soul more solid and longer-lived.

This change usually occurs within one to two hundred years after becoming a ghost. In comparison to the overall lifespan of a ghost, everyone jokingly refers to it as “puberty.” Everyone must go through puberty, but considering Su Ling’s age…

Sheng Ze looked at him skeptically.

Su Ling didn’t think much of it himself. At the moment, he was busy poking the Silkworm Baby’s head, earnestly educating, “As a pet, can’t you have a bit of dignity?”

The Silkworm Baby turned its body with a look of grievance, pointing its chubby bottom towards Su Ling in protest.

Undeterred, Su Ling took a few steps and approached the Silkworm Baby again, “You’re my pet, how can you casually accept others’ feeding and act cute towards others? Did I give you fewer snacks, or shorter playtime?”

The Silkworm Baby became even more upset—

You eat a handful of the chips you bought, I only get one piece;

You play with the toys you bought, and you’re happier than I am.

—Clearly, both are lacking aren’t they!

The Silkworm Baby snorted and turned its body again, lifting its bottom to show its disdain.

Su Ling childishly ran over, wanting to scold it, but was stopped by Meng Xiaoman, who patted his shoulder and held him back.

Su Ling: “This tuanzi2ball is getting more outrageous. Don’t stop me, I need to criticize it properly!”

Meng Xiaoman shook her head, “It’s not Tuanzi, something happened to the Qian family.”

Su Ling didn’t immediately recall, “Which Qian family?”

Meng Xiaoman said, “The Qian family where we found Tuanzi.”

Frowning, Su Ling suddenly felt uneasy, “What happened?”

Meng Xiaoman looked serious, “Mr. Qian has passed away.”

With a loss of life in the Qian family, by the time Su Ling and the others arrived, the criminal investigators had already surrounded the entire villa.

Eldest Young Master Qian was waiting outside and quickly waved to Su Ling and the others, leading them in through the back door.

“Ever since Boss Su caught that monster and took it away, the house has been peaceful, and my father’s health improved significantly. So, my brother and I weren’t worried. Who knew something like this would happen suddenly.” Eldest Young Master Qian looked pale, tired, and seemed to have taken quite a blow.

Su Ling frowned, looking over the villa again, “Tuanzi isn’t malicious. Last time I saw Mr. Qian, although he seemed mentally strained, his health was fine. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been at ease taking it away.”

Eldest Young Master Qian smiled bitterly, “I understand. Boss Su, I’m not doubting your abilities, it’s just… sigh, my father’s body is in the room, take a look, and you’ll understand.”

Author’s note:

Su Ling: Just for a bit of food, you act cute, sing, and flatter, Silkworm Baby, you’re too spineless!

As he spoke, Sheng Ze slowly took out a bag of chips: act cute and you can eat these.

Su Ling: Guji~ guji~

Sheng Ze:… I meant for the Silkworm Baby.

Su Ling fluttered his arms eagerly, coquettish: I’m a baby~

Sheng Ze wiped away a nosebleed and calmly handed the bag of chips to Su Ling: You’re right, it’s just a ball, what is it eating chips for?

Silkworm Baby: ??? Guji guji!!!
