His true identity?

Because of Qin Zhuo’s sudden words, Jian Xie forgot the scorching heat radiating directly above his body and subconsciously frowned.

He did, in fact, let slip a few details.

……

Jian Xie asked, “Are you the fourth dagger?”

Upon hearing this, the evil god merely curled his lips into a smile, but said nothing.

He simply leaned down and met his lips again. Then, as if to punish him, he reached out and heavily stroked the other’s lower lip, lazily saying, “That’s not quite right.”

The evil god did not move his body, clearly indicating that he should guess again.

Jian Xie pursed his lips.

“…but the answer should be very close.”

Because of the force Qin Zhuo had used without restraint in his subsequent blows, he could feel a dull ache in his lips.

If this happened a few more times, the swelling probably won’t go down by Monday when it was time for him to go to class.

The evil god propped himself up on his hand and leisurely lifted his eyelids. “Here’s a hint. I do have connection to it, but I’m not some cheap prop.”

There was a hint of arrogance in his tone as his disdainful gaze swept over the black box on the table.

“It’s not exactly hell either.”

His fingers remained on Jian Xie’s cheek, neither too light nor too heavy, as if urging him to give the correct answer soon. The other’s dark red eyes were fixed on him without blinking.

Jian Xie: “…”

He ignored the close proximity between them, turned his face away, avoided eye contact, and cleared his mind of the confusion brought about by their tangled breaths.

Anyway… let’s start with filtering out the special information first.

Since Qin Zhuo mentioned the evil reputation, there was only one thing related to it—

The wood carving.

Jian Xie could still vividly recall the scene he witnessed at that time.

Placed right in the center of the auction hall was a wooden sculpture depicting a twisted figure engulfed in raging flames.

When the monster encountered the accursed object before he could, it was instantly burned to ash by indescribable flames. It was as if the deadly flames had descended from another dimension and spread from the wood carving to purify abhorrent sins.

Wen Heshu seemed to have mentioned that the monsters called It the evil god of judgment…

It was only when Jian Xie was being tormented in Wandering Hell but didn’t follow the usual pattern of destruction, that he began to attract It’s attention.

In fact, It Itself said that at the moment of It’s descent, It originally intended to burn all sinful beings death.

In a flash, a guess that might be closest to the truth flashed through Jian Xie’s mind.

……

“You are,” Jian Xie looked at the handsome young man with a human appearance atop him, and said, “Hellfire.”

—The divine fire that consumes sinners and extinguishes evil thoughts.

Legend has it that this terrifying fire could transcend the limits of time and space, and could punish any sinner and torment anything in hell at will.

Upon hearing his human utter this term, Qin Zhuo’s expression softened slightly and he narrowed his eyes, saying, “I’d almost forgotten, that is indeed what they call me.”

There was no denial.

But it wasn’t fully acknowledged either.

But, fire?

Before this, Jian Xie had never thought in this direction.

After all, he had touched the other person’s body with his own hands and felt those lips on his skin.

An evil god wielding the world’s most terrifying flames felt so cold to the touch that it left a deep, dark blue and gray impression on his subconscious.

Jian Xie then took a closer look at what he had originally thought was black mist.

Even though Qin Zhuo had a physical form, he could still notice the tentacle-like black mist emerging from under the sofa, on the floor, and between the furniture.

…That’s not fog.

Instead, it was some kind of ash left after burning that floated midair, creating the illusion of a mist.

“As for my heart,” Qin Zhuo said slowly, giving a nonsensical smile, “it’s right beside you.”

Jian Xie’s gaze fell on the sofa, where the black box he had been carrying for a month was sitting.

Even under the only lampshade that emitted a sliver of light, it still reflected all the light back, dim and exuding a mysterious, deadly blackness.

Previously, Wen Heshu had mentioned in a fearful tone that he could sense a heart hidden in there…

Jian Xie suddenly found himself at a loss for words.

Because Qin Zhuo was simply too audacious.

Even though he wasn’t sure if Jane Xie had any feelings for him, and knowing full well that he was capable of killing him, he still gave himself to him completely, without hesitation.

Was it overconfidence, or did he simply prioritize Jian Xie’s life above all else?

“I didn’t make a wrong judgment either.”

Qin Zhuo didn’t give the matter a second thought, merely raising an eyebrow slightly and saying nonchalantly, “Besides, I came here in the first place just for you.”

Acting conservatively was never It’s style.

If Jian Xie really killed It, that would be a special kind of double suicide, since they had already become one.

Jian Xie finally realized what was going on.

Wait a moment.

He was the chosen one, and therefore able to wield [Hell]. The daggers were the embodiment of its pillar boundaries.

The four daggers were sealed in a black box, and now Qin Zhuo had admitted that it was his heart…

He said, “I’ve been slumbering in hell as my consciousness wandered through all of time and space, until you awakened me.”

This spying was scattered until it finally focused on a single human being.

Qin Zhuo’s figure twisted and dissipated above him, eventually turning into ashes before reappearing in the seat opposite the sofa.

Freed of the weight above him, Jian Xie got up from the sofa, sat up straight, and looked pensive.

His gaze then fell on the black box.

If he remembered it correctly, the only dagger he hasn’t picked up yet was [Infinite Hell].

In other words, the deepest part of hell.

All hells originated from the Infinite Hell, therefore it was also known as the most fundamental hell, or Purgatory.

Purgatory was filled with flames and humans screaming as they were repeatedly scorched by blazing fire…

It was for this very reason that the legend of the fiery pits of hell came into being.

Jian Xie raised his gaze and frowned, “Actually, becoming stronger is secondary because you mainly want me to pick up the last dagger, don’t you? Because it’s yours—”

Before he could finish his sentence, Qin Zhuo suddenly interrupted him in a languid tone, “No.”

“It’s not so much as the conspiracy theory that you think it is.” He smiled and said, “I did want you to pick it up, but there’s nothing behind it other than the fact that I like you.”

Jian Xie was taken aback. “…”

But his expression remained indifferent, clearly not fooled by the evil god’s words of affection.

A silence fell between the two.

Until Qin Zhuo spoke.

“You should understand by now that the Eighteen Evils serve as something like a mediator between humans and monsters.” The evil god stared intently at Jian Xie with his dark crimson eyes as he slowly revealing the long-buried truth. “But it can also be considered the only human being who can communicate with me spiritually, because it’s a special existence recognized by Hell and by me.”

…Spiritually?

Jian Xie, who suddenly remembered something from a month ago, when he had been tormented by a voice in his head and thinking he was sick: “…”

【My true form is not here. Even if I were to recreate a body, it will only be a projection of myself in this world.】

Qin Zhuo changed his tone of voice. His deep voice spoken at such close range to Jian Xie’s ears sent shivers down his spine, giving him a full understanding of what “spiritually” meant: 【Being able to be with you like this is all because of this identity, so I hope you’ll take up that last dagger.】

【Take back ownership of the title “[Eighteen Evils]”.】

And after that, establish an unbreakable connection with him.

Acknowledging this identity was far more enduring than any rings or pendants. He desired for them to belong to each other, body and heart, to become “us” completely.

This was the evil god’s scheme.

“What do you mean ‘take back’?”

Qin Zhuo first narrowed his eyes in disgust before lazily saying, 【Because that player is a thief.】

“I see,” Jian Xie said.

In short, something was taken away by the other party, which was why the monsters from hell were released.

In other words, he has to take it back.

No wonder the evil god wasn’t impatient with him and Wen Heshu going on this mission. It was because this was also what he wanted Jian Xie to do. Unlike the simple requirements previously that could be fulfilled by eating, the fourth dagger was not so easy to pick up.

Perhaps mistaking his brief moment of contemplation for hesitation, the evil god slowly spoke.

【It’s too late to back out now.】

Qin Zhuo smiled and said cheerfully, 【I hinted at it before and you accepted.】

Moreover, it was his human who made a pinky promise with this wicked evil god, promising to pick up the last dagger and stay together forever.

But he hasn’t been exactly so noble.

Why refuse?

When their fingers touched and gently hooked together, he used all his restraint to refrain from doing anything excessive against Jian Xie’s wishes.

【Are you planning to break your promise?】 He asked playfully.

“……”

Jian Xie couldn’t help but reach out and rub his earlobes repeatedly, trying to suppress the tingling, itchy feeling.

Then……

“You don’t need to act like this in front of me.” He sighed and said, “Besides, you really spoiled the plot for me too much.”

Upon hearing this, the evil god’s breath hitched.

“Nevertheless, you still told me just in time. After I realized that the third dagger was actually the key to hell and before I picked up the last dagger.”

He could have simply told Jian Xie to pick up the fourth dagger without saying anything.

—Was it because you were soft-hearted, or did something else make you change your mind?

Under his gaze, Jian Xie did not become cold with anger because of the deception like He imagined. Instead, he smiled and said, “Thank you for this childish scheme.”

He stood up from the sofa and walked over to Qin Zhuo.

Two pairs of eyes met.

The two were standing far too close, having long since crossed the safe distance.

Then, Jian Xie reached out his hand.

Because of the height difference between the two of them, he was just able to hug the evil god who was sitting down so that the other’s cheek rested against his body.

Then he ran his fingers through the other’s hair.

While feeling the cool sensation against his skin, he leaned down and gently kissed the top of Qin Zhou’s head.

As he moved, Jian Xie could feel the other man’s body tremble beneath his hand, but Qin Zhuo remained silent.

【……】

Silence fell upon the room.

No one knew what the other party was thinking in those few brief seconds.

However, after a while, Qin Zhuo suddenly turned to the side. A movement so abrupt that it startled Jian Xie.

He held him tightly around the waist in that position, burying his face in the human’s chest, as if to imprison him in his embrace forever.

“You’re right.”

A low, hoarse voice echoed in the living room, landing heavily in Jian Xie’s heart and making him ignore the pain in his waist.

What the other said next made his heart tremble.

“I think love you more than I imagined.”

Therefore, he never lied to the human before him, never concealed the truth, and never showed the same coldness He displayed towards other monsters.

This led to him betraying his past self and going against the nature of an evil god.

He has seen all the changes in the person before him form since they first met to now, but he hasn’t realized what changes he himself has gone through so far.

It wasn’t merely ‘like’.

But…

Love.

He had been tamed by the human before him, whom he gave his name to.

—Qin Zhuo.

These two most ordinary words form the world’s shortest spell. One he created specifically for Jian Xie’s sake.

As long as he uttered this name, the evil god would be bound by an invisible force and involuntarily grant all his requests.

Therefore, Qin Zhuo could no longer act like a deity in his presence.

“I will accept the fourth dagger.” Above his head, Jian Xie paused before continuing, “This isn’t just for you. It’s because I like us this way right now.”

…It would be best if it were always like this.

Deep down, probably no human being could resist a temptation like this—to have a god descend upon them, bestowing them endless favor and indulgence. The sense of satisfaction such a thing would bring was unparalleled.

Moreover, Jian Xie really liked Qin Zhuo.

He was ready to claim both the evil god and the title of [Eighteen Evils] forever.

Even if it meant that hell and monsters would always follow him like a shadow, he would never regret it.
