In the silence, Qin Zhuo suddenly spoke, “Fish.”
The lazy voice immediately broke the subtle atmosphere that was spreading in the living room, and instantly all eyes were on It.
Jian Xie: “…Understood.”
I guess only someone like It would care about cooking at a time like this…
And it was repeated twice.
He could understand what the other person meant.
Now that It has taken an interest and wanted to experience it physically and perhaps because It’s appearance was time-limited, It simply didn’t care about the feelings of third parties.
Jian Xie sighed, stood up from the sofa, and walked towards the kitchen. “Let me see how you’ve handled it.”
Qin Zhuo clicked his tongue and looked up at him. “You’re doubting me.”
“……”
Jian Xie couldn’t help but let his lips twitch. “I’m not.”
“……”
Hearing their rambling and mundane conversation, Lu Xueya froze on the spot, questioning the meaning of life.
She never imagined that this brash young man, upon hearing of the possible existence of [Eagle’s Eye], would react with such utter indifference.
It was as if he didn’t care about it at all, or that his demeanor conveyed an air of confidence.
Some people, even without saying a word, could still give off an air of omnipotence and domineering superiority.
It sounded unbelievable, but his dismissive attitude did indeed relieve her…
…But who exactly is he?
Despite having such capabilities, she’s never seen him at the Bureau.
Lu Xueya’s gaze fell on his hand, which was casually draped over the back of the sofa. The ring on his ring finger shimmered brightly in the sunlight, catching her eye. It was understated yet highly personal in style, yet somehow it looked strangely familiar to her.
She racked her brains.
Where exactly have I seen this before? It gave her the illusion that she had just seen it recently.
It was only at this moment that the other party stopped treating her like she was invisible, and instead slightly raised his chin to meet her gaze with an indifferent one.
The unfathomable depths of his eyes now gleamed with a cruel, scarlet light, giving off a strong sense of inhumanity.
Under such an emotionless gaze, Lu Xueya felt a chill run down her spine and a sense of dread wash over her.
Her body stiffened instantly, and her mind went blank.
“……”
“Qin Zhuo, where did you put the seasonings?”
A cold voice suddenly came from behind the sofa, breaking the stagnant atmosphere.
The air was finally circulating again.
She instinctively breathed a sigh of relief, as if saved, and turned her head. Sure enough, Jian Xie was standing behind her, squinting at Qin Zhuo.
His face was expressionless.
But Qin Zhuo lazily withdrew his gaze from Lu Xueya and stood up from the sofa, his figure tall and slender. Every move he made was pleasing to the eye. He slowly walked to Jian Xie’s side, curled his lips into a smile, suggesting that he was in quite a good mood.
That just now, was a means to discipline It.
Just like before, It’s human did not offend It; on the contrary, It found it strangely novel and even became cheerful.
Qin Zhuo seemed to be deep in thought.
So this is what it feels like to be perceived as docile and brought under someone’s control.
Jian Xie glanced at him: [Don’t threaten others casually.]
【Alright,】 Qin Zhuo’s smile didn’t fade, in fact, it seemed to linger. 【I understand.】
Jian Xie: “…”
Jianxie: “The fish was prepared well.”
This wasn’t a lie he made to appease the other, because the scene he saw when he entered the kitchen was indeed somewhat unexpected.
The cut on the fish’s belly was neat, and the internal organs were directly separated to one side.
Jian Xie glanced at the knife rack hanging on the kitchen wall. The blades on it were clean and tidy, showing no signs of having been used.
……
So, how exactly did It handle it?
Ever since he met the evil god living in his body, Jian Xie’s long-lost curiosity has been awakened in strange places, and his thought process has become increasingly bizarre.
Although this thought only flashed through his mind, it still highlighted how exceptionally special the other person was—always capable of stirring subtle ripples in his otherwise calm emotions.
Qin Zhuo looked down at Jian Xie and reached out to stroke the ends of his hair.
As It casually twirled It’s fingers together, It said in a lazy tone, “Fortunately. Although, it has nothing to do with me, it’s just that it’s quite self-aware.”
It had clearly emphasized this to Jian Xie several times, and now that It was finally being praised, It distanced himself completely, leaving everyone wondering what It really meant.
“……”
Jian Xie hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but then stopped.
In the end, he gave up and decided not to ask any further questions.
Jian Xie silently shed a few imaginary crocodile tears for the sea bass, then looked up and asked, “Do you eat spicy food?”
“I see!”
Lu Xueya, who was sitting on the sofa, suddenly exclaimed. “I remember seeing you somewhere before… You two are a couple, aren’t you?!”
She noticed the ring the moment Jian Xie appeared in front of her.
She just didn’t connect the two.
She looked conflicted.
Upon hearing this, Qin Zhuo raised an eyebrow, then changed his wordin, “More or less.”
Jian Xie: “…”
Seeing that the human before him no longer refuting the relationship as decisively as he had in front of Cheng Li, It withdrew It’s fingers from playing with the other’s hair with satisfaction. It’s cold fingertips brushed lightly against the other’s chin, as if It were deliberately teasing him.
As It moved casually, Jian Xie’s body trembled involuntarily for a moment.
He lowered his head and looked at his ring finger.
Now he finally realized that everyone who saw it had the same shocked expression, as if wearing a ring meant something profound.
Even so, Jian Xie had no intention of taking it off.
After all, he had promised Qin Zhuo that the ring would be a symbol of their contract, and Qin Zhuo didn’t care that others would mistake them for a couple. It didn’t even explain it to Wu Qinghe. So, as a human, he didn’t need to be too constrained by worldly conventions.
He just hoped that when his classmates see the ring after the weekend when he goes back to school, they won’t think he got married so young after over the weekend…
The atmosphere inside the room became delicate once again.
However, before the terrible conjecture could take shape in his mind, a sudden knock on the door interrupted his train of thought.
The sound wasn’t loud.
Although it was only three light taps, it felt extremely ominous and sent chills down one’s spine.
Especially outside the window where there were several crows that had somehow landed at some point.
The scavenger’s yellowish eyes stared unblinkingly at the people in the living room, as if in their eyes, they were already edible carrion.
Upon seeing this, Lu Xueya immediately tensed up on alert.
She looked at Jian Xie and immediately added: “I’ve seen this before. There were a lot of crows outside my safe house before. It must be it.”
That was the scout.
Special A-level monsters have bizarre and strange abilities, just like investigators chosen by props. They must be treated with caution and vigilance.
Crows were rarely seen in cities, but their unusual gathering now must be related to the appearance of a monster.
The sky was dark because of the countless crows circling overhead, which allowed it to know her whereabouts immediately, making it an all-knowing, all-powerful being.
Despite the prop damage, Lu Xueya had not lost her Insight value as a Special A-level investigator. Whenever she discovered a flock of crows outside a safe house, she would immediately change locations. Sure enough, several safe houses were destroyed soon afterward, which was why she has survived until now.
“We’d better leave now.” Lu Xueya hurriedly asked, glancing at Jian Xie who was still standing calmly in place. She frowned and slowed down, “Is there another door here that can lead us out? Or do you have other plans?”
Jian Xie said coldly, “No need to leave, it’s probably just food delivery.”
His gaze fell on the door that had just been knocked on.
The real appetizer has already arrived at the door. That was surprisingly quick. I wonder how long it’s been observing from the sky.
Lu Xueya: “…”
D-delivery?
【A crow?】Qin Zhuo chuckled casually. 【I was hoping for something a birt more interesting.】
Jian Xie glanced at the crows outside the window a few more times, then quickly looked away.
Those were not real crows.
They appeared in groups, their forms distorted, and were probably D-rank monsters driven by them, just like the insects before.
That was quite in line with what we know about this monster’s behavior so far.
In nature, crows remember those who anger them and will continue to harass and retaliate against them, even after they die, their descendants will continue to seek revenge.
These petty and malicious birds were cruelly and mercilessly preyed upon by eagles.
This was determined by the food chain. Even these monsters that have escaped hell must abide by the predation rules imposed by their hierarchy.
No wonder Qin Zhuo had such an expression. After It descended, It casually discarded it and even forgot about it. If it weren’t for the material needed to reshape his body, he wouldn’t have bothered to search for the [Eagle Eye]. It was the true tool that could see through everything in the world and was omniscient and omnipotent.
The crows’ eyes suddenly turned to Jian Xie, ignored everyone else, and flapped their wings at him, cawing a few times.
A hoarse, rough voice echoed intermittently outside the window.
Lu Xueya paused, a look of confusion on her face. “There’s—”
Qin Zhuo narrowed It’s eyes in displeasure.
The next moment, in full view of everyone, the flock of crows was instantly pulverized into black ashes!
A deathly silence.
At the same time, the footsteps outside the door stopped abruptly.
After a while, the doorbell suddenly rang, replacing the previous knocking, as if the other party had finally remembered that it was the 21st century and there was a more appropriate way to visit.
Seeing that no one opened the door, the door was kicked in a fit of rage, followed by an unfamiliar voice.
With extreme anxiety, the other party shouted, “Jian Xie, is that you? Are you still there?”
“Minister Zhang told you to leave here quickly, the monster should have already come knocking—these crows… Am I too late? Why is there no sound…”
“I’m breaking down the door! Damn it, please don’t let anything happen!!”
“……”
Suddenly, a series of rapid gasps came from beside Jian Xie.
“That…that’s my brother’s voice, I can’t be mistaken,” Lu Xueya murmured, her face blank. “But I saw his body with my own eyes…”
He was gutted by the monster himself.
She stared blankly into space, recalling the image of the corpse in her mind. She felt dizzy and weak, as if she couldn’t muster any strength.
“No, he’s already dead…”
Yet the tone of his voice was so vivid, no different from before.
At the same time, the young man outside the door shouted anxiously, “That’s… my sister… She was killed by a monster and is no longer human, but she doesn’t know it. She’s dangerous. If she’s near you, try to stay away from her. I’ll be right in!”

1 thought on “Chapter 61 – Who’s outside the door?”
Today the chapters end feels a bit abrupt. Cliffhanger can be nice but this one is mean. I wasn’t fully drawn in before it ended already 😢. Funny that he still thinks that the ring wasn’t given with intention. Thank you as always.
