Chapter 12 – Hand over the items

Translator: ChuRen/ YuQiChen

Ren Ju knew not only had Si Nuo matched with a partner, but that partner was so generous as to buy him cake from the central canteen.

Thinking about his own match—besides being an A-level psychic, he had nothing else to boast about.

Seeing him return to the dorm, throwing a tantrum and slamming things around, the fatty knew he was furious about Si Nuo matching with someone.

“You don’t have to be that mad. Si Nuo has been getting some attention lately, but even so, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s going to die sooner or later. He has a genetic illness. So what if he matched with someone? What kind of good partner could that be?”

Ren Ju looked at the chubby guy. “Look at how smug they both were today—just for a cake from the central canteen. What’s so good about it? And they even deliberately brought it to class to show off. I’ll spit on that!”

——

After finishing chatting with Guan Xingchen, Si Nuo got up and opened the cake on the table. “Zhang Yu, let’s share the cake.”

Their dorm had no refrigeration, so they had to eat it tonight.

The moment the box was opened, the sweet aroma of strawberry cream wafted out.

“Smells so good—no wonder it’s from the central canteen.” Zhang Yu inhaled the scent with delight.

Si Nuo hadn’t expected it was actually his favorite—strawberry cake.

“Quick, get a spoon! Let’s eat together.”

Zhang Yu shook his head. “No, just this one piece, and it was sent by His Highness himself.”

Si Nuo smiled at him. “This eight-inch cake? Let me eat it all alone? I’ll probably end up in the infirmary tomorrow. You know well I can’t eat much at night, and if I leave it till tomorrow it’ll go bad. Hurry up!”

Zhang Yu thought about it. With Si Nuo’s weak constitution, eating too much at night might cause indigestion and a fever. “Heh, then I won’t be polite.”

An eight-inch cake wasn’t that big, but the two happily shared it.

Si Nuo controlled himself and set the spoon down after a few bites. “I’m going to wash up. You eat it, don’t waste it.”

Zhang Yu sighed. “That’s a relief for me.”

Si Nuo laughed, “At least it’s not wasted.”

Zhang Yu immediately smiled, “True! Central canteen stuff is so expensive. When I have money, I’ll try all their delicacies!”

Si Nuo replied, “You definitely can—I believe in you!”

Zhang Yu grinned, “Thank you for your kind words!”

After Si Nuo finished showering and came out, he pulled out a chair. Zhang Yu noticed and said, “Are you going to paint?”

Si Nuo said, “He gave me cake, so I can’t not return the favor. Painting is the only thing I can do.”

Zhang Yu’s curiosity was immediately piqued. “What are you going to paint for him?”

“A portrait, I guess.”

“Really? Go ahead and paint.”

Zhang Yu plopped down beside him.

Si Nuo asked, “…Aren’t you going to sleep?”

Zhang Yu shook his head. “I want to see what His Highness really looks like!”

About this His Highness, there was not a single image or data available online—this was normal in the empire. Royal family members only become public after the Crown Prince ascends the throne.

Si Nuo hadn’t thought of it that way and said, “Well, just don’t tell anyone.”

Zhang Yu replied, “Even if I wanted to say, who would believe it?”

That was true. Just an ordinary person like him with a genetic disease matched to the empire’s future emperor—who would believe it?

He himself didn’t dare to believe it.

Without more words, Si Nuo began to paint.

Once immersed, he barely noticed anything outside.

Watching Si Nuo at work was an enjoyment for Zhang Yu.

It was as if the brush in Si Nuo’s hand was different from theirs; it seemed to carry a soul, and each stroke was steady and confident.

Soon, a man with sword-like eyebrows and starry eyes, dressed in military uniform, appeared on the blank paper.

Handsome, extraordinary, and majestic.

So this was what His Highness looked like. He seemed vaguely familiar—like Zhang Yu had seen him somewhere before, but that couldn’t be. His Highness didn’t have a common face. If he had seen him, he’d surely remember…

“Finished! How is it?” Si Nuo put down the brush and showed the painting to Zhang Yu.

Zhang Yu snapped back to reality. “How could it not be good? This is amazing! So it turns out His Highness is this handsome. Those rumors saying he looks fierce and terrifying are completely false.”

Hearing this, Si Nuo felt a bit guilty. He actually thought the rumors weren’t entirely false. Although His Highness looked unrealistically handsome, Guan Xingchen was indeed quite fierce.

Thinking of that, he instinctively touched his neck.

Putting the finished painting aside, Si Nuo washed his hands and lay down on the bed, planning to get up early tomorrow to paint the mural.

As for whether Guan Xingchen would really come to watch him paint, Si Nuo didn’t dwell much on it. After all, with Guan Xingchen’s status, if he wanted to come, he’d have to find time.

Guan Xingchen was reviewing the data from the recent freshman training. “This group’s physical fitness is much better than previous ones.”

The aide nodded. “Yes. The medical team had prepared for possible sudden psychic disorders, but this time, incidents dropped by 10% compared to last year. Several even showed signs of breaking through to S-level psychic power. Usually, students between upgrade stages are most prone to psychic disorder outbreaks. We’ve been closely monitoring, but these few remain stable—even excessively so. According to investigations, these students happen to be the ones possessing the Healing Paintings.”

Upon hearing “Healing Paintings” again, Guan Xingchen asked, “How’s the investigation progressing?”

“They sent people to see the paintings hung in their dorms. The feedback was that the paintings looked beautiful but didn’t evoke any other feelings,” the aide said with some confusion.

Guan Xingchen said, “Didn’t they say these paintings have healing powers—that they can stabilize one’s mental sea? How come there’s no other effect? Go see with your own eyes.”

The aide nodded, “Okay, I’ll check today.”

In truth, even without being told, he planned to inspect them. He was very curious and hopeful about the Healing Paintings. If they really had healing effects, could they work on His Highness too?

So the aide left the apartment and went directly to Lu Cen’s dormitory. At that moment, the trainees were still on their way back. Lu Cen sat in his hovercar when someone poked his shoulder from behind.

“Cen-ge1calling someone older brother doesn’t really require you to be related, can you show us your painting once more? Just one look, please! My head feels like it’s exploding. If I don’t see it again, I probably won’t make it back to school!”

“Yeah, Cen-ge, have mercy on us brothers!”

Lu Cen opened his eyes and saw the eager crowd around him. He didn’t hesitate to show them.

He took out the small board painting from his chest and held it carefully. “Be careful looking, don’t ruin it!”

Everyone gathered closely, eyes lowered admiring the little painting. Their noise naturally attracted the instructor at the front; he walked over.

“What’s going on? Why are you all crowded around? Are you sneaking a look at something? Are you hiding contraband?”

Seeing the instructor, the crowd instinctively hid the painting behind their backs. Ironically, hiding it only made it look more suspicious.

“It’s not that, Instructor! We’re not looking at anything!”

“Not looking? What are you hiding? Is it some naughty picture? I know you half-grown kids all too well. Show it to me!”
