Jiang Que felt happy, believing he had made the right decision. He even forgot to taste the rice ball in Shen Tazhi’s hand and the novel with an unknown ending. After finishing a pot of Eight Treasures Congee by himself, he returned to his most familiar corner, where his dead tentacles were piled up.
First, he rearranged his dead tentacles deep into the darkness, out of Shen Tazhi’s sight, then selected two tentacles from behind to use as cushions.
Just as he was about to rest as usual, Jiang Que’s peripheral vision caught Shen Tazhi preparing dinner scraps.
Feeling conflicted, Jiang Que thought of the food Shen Tazhi had given him earlier. He tentatively poked Shen Tazhi with a small tentacle, rolling him over to face him, and kindly asked, “Do you want my tentacle?”
It would be painful to sit on the ground for a human, who was so fragile. So, he reluctantly offered a tentacle to this human.
Before Shen Tazhi could finish cleaning up the trash, Jiang Que rolled him over. Shen Tazhi found himself unable to move, with his arms and upper body entangled by Jiang Que’s tentacles. Shen Tazhi sighed in resignation, “Jiang Que, could you please release me before we talk? I’m having trouble breathing like this.”
“Humans are so fragile,” Jiang Que muttered, loosening his grip on Shen Tazhi.
If it weren’t for Shen Tazhi saying he needed to sleep and eat, he wouldn’t have slept at all. Sitting with his eyes closed against a darker darkness, what was fun about facing even deeper darkness alone? He didn’t like it at all and couldn’t understand why humans were so insistent on sleeping.
Shen Tazhi apparently heard his muttering but just patted his head with a smile, saying, “Wait for me a moment.”
He walked back to where they had eaten, much to Jiang Que’s confusion. Shen Tazhi first took out a garbage bag from his backpack to clean up the leftovers, then untied something bundled up on his backpack. He carried it over to Jiang Que and unfolded it.
A long sleeping bag spread out on the ground, to Jiang Que’s astonishment.
“This is a sleeping bag, used for sleeping. It might be more comfortable than using your tentacles. Would you like to try it?” Shen Tazhi asked gently, watching Jiang Que cautiously poke the soft sleeping bag with his finger, while his tentacles behind him murmured.
[This is for sleeping? How do you sleep when wrapped up like this?]
[It’s difficult to stretch out when the tentacles are inside. It’s dangerous, I don’t like it.]
He didn’t like dangerous things.
Thinking this, Jiang Que stood up slowly to express his refusal through action.
Seeing the reluctant Jiang Que, Shen Tazhi smiled and said, “Do you want to give it a try? If you’re willing to sleep in the sleeping bag, I can tell you a bedtime story.”
“Bedtime story?” Jiang Que stopped poking the sleeping bag with a frown.
This time, Shen Tazhi preemptively provided a thoughtful answer before Jiang Que could voice his doubts, saying, “It means you fall asleep, and I’ll tell you the story after Ye Bingli.”
Jiang Que:!
“I want to listen, I want to sleep right now.”
Jiang Que pounced onto the sleeping bag, kneeling while looking up at Shen Tazhi. His tentacles behind him swayed unsteadily, barely maintaining balance while also keeping one tentacle ready to wrap around Shen Tazhi, prepared to pull him closer.
He had never “fallen asleep” before, and tonight he could finally finish listening to the story. How wonderful!
Shen Tazhi walked over, relieved but helpless, “Wait a moment, the sleeping bag is not used like that.”
Perplexed, Jiang Que looked at the sleeping bag beneath him, “Isn’t it used like this?”
Wasn’t this how humans used cushions?
Shen Tazhi bent down, lifting Jiang Que off the sleeping bag with both hands. Under Jiang Que’s puzzled gaze, he unzipped the sleeping bag and demonstrated, saying, “This is how you use it. First, unzip it, then you can sleep inside and zip it up to keep warm.”
Looking at the large sleeping bag meant for adults, Jiang Que hesitated, shaking his tentacles behind him, “Can I really sleep inside?”
Without his tentacles, this sleeping bag could easily accommodate two of him, butā
The thickest tentacle that had initially wrapped around Shen Tazhi disdainfully shook its pointed tip:
Such a small sleeping bag, it felt like it couldn’t even fit half of it.
The other tentacles nodded in agreement.
Shen Tazhi was also surprised by the size of Jiang Que’s tentacles at this moment. After a moment of silence, he tentatively suggested, “Why don’t you try getting in first, and I’ll help you adjust your tentacles?”
“I don’t want to.” Jiang Que hugged his small tentacles, “Don’t touch my tentacles casually, I’ll do it myself.”
Only he could threaten others with his tentacles. Humans had no right to handle his tentacles as they pleased.
Shen Tazhi helplessly watched Jiang Que cram himself into the sleeping bag, shaking his head once again.
Why was he so defenseless at all times? What if he happened to encounter someone with ill intentions? This was not a good habit at all.
Ten minutes had passed by the time Jiang Que successfully squeezed himself into the sleeping bag, adjusting each tentacle to a comfortable position where they wouldn’t be squished.
Only his head peeked out from the sleeping bag, curiously twisting his body left and right. The tentacles trapped inside the sleeping bag sighed:
[It’s soft and warm.]
[I’m sleepy… but it’s a bit cramped.]
Even though Jiang Que himself was tiny, sleeping in such a sleeping bag was still a bit snug. However, it was much more comfortable than dozing off against a wall.
The highly powerful little monster was trapped in the sleeping bag, only revealing his head. His beautiful and delicate face was directly facing Shen Tazhi, who couldn’t resist reaching out to touch Jiang Que’s soft black hair, successfully earning an angry glare from Jiang Que, reminiscent of a startled kitten.
“Don’t touch my head randomly,” Jiang Que complained, frowning.
Only human children would allow head-patting; he was not a child.
“Okay,” Shen Tazhi obediently withdrew his hand but couldn’t resist rubbing his fingers together before looking back at Jiang Que.
When he came back to life, there was only a week left before the end of the world. Due to the tight schedule, Shen Tazhi hadn’t rested much in a whole week to ensure everything was well-prepared. Life had become so busy that it seemed fake, like a dream within a dream.
Finally settling down now, looking at Jiang Que staring at him from the sleeping bag, Shen Tazhi finally felt a sense of his own rebirth.
His Xiao Que… was really alive, which was great.
Seeing Shen Tazhi lost in thought, Jiang Que opened his mouth in confusion, “Hey?”
What was wrong with this human again? Wasn’t he going to tell a story?
Startled by Jiang Que’s sudden question, Shen Tazhi smiled gently at him, “Sorry, I zoned out for a moment. Let me think, where did we leave off in that novel?”
Jiang Que earnestly recounted, “Ye Bingli was betrayed. She and Su Mo left school, preparing for revenge.”
Shen Tazhi seemed to smile softly as he sat down beside Jiang Que, pulling out the thin book āRevenge of the Three Princesses vs. The Three Icy Princesā from his backpack, “The next part of the story is…”
