“Call me Teacher Bai, not big or small.1It’s like saying, how disrespectful.” Bai Ruan was so embarrassed that he stared at Lang Jing Feng sternly, but he was still a bit afraid. So he quickly changed the subject by calling out the names of the children one by one, and raised those that were asking to be lifted one by one; high up, swerve left and right and then put down.

As the children laughed in mid-air, Bai Ruan looked at them with a smile. Because he was at a loss due to Lang Jing Feng’s teasing and lifting these children of forty to fifty kilograms in circles was also physically exhausting, Bai Ruan’s cheeks turned red.

As his skin was fair, a thin layer of red ink spread on his face mixing with the paleness, becoming peach-like pink. His blush was not awkward, but it only made his facial features better. His eyelashes were also very black and dense. In the blink of an eye, Lang Jing Feng felt an unbearable itch on the tip of his heart, as if he were being swept across by those eyelashes.

Lang Jing Feng stared at Bai Ruan with lustful eyes, and he no longer wanted to call him a teacher.

…It was okay to call him that in bed.

At this time, Bai Ruan took a quick glance at the young man and shouted, “Lang Jing Feng.”

Lang Jing Feng licked his lips. “Here.”

Bai Ruan continued, “Your main task for this afternoon is to accompany the children. You can play games with them, tell them stories and so on. I’ll be with you throughout.”

In these past few years, welfare homes became generally adequate in terms of materials. Compared to candy and toys, the children were more eager for love and the company of others.

“Got it.” Lang Jing Feng bent over, waved to the child closest to him, and called over in a hoarse voice, “Hey, buddy.”

The young child looked at Lang Jing Feng with horror for a moment and suddenly cried, “Waahhhh!”

Lang Jing Feng scratched his handsome but aggressive face with his fingertips, and commented innocently, “… I didn’t do anything.”

“His name is Le Le.” Bai Ruan replied.

“Le Le, hey,” Lang Jing Feng knelt and poked Le Le’s little belly. “Brother wants to discuss something with you… Don’t cry anymore.”

With tears in his eyes, Le Le scurried away and clung to Bai Ruan’s thigh, for fear of being taken away by Lang Jing Feng.

Negotiations collapsed within seconds.

Lang Jing Feng frog-leapt, jumped towards Bai Ruan, and chased Le Le. “Is it possible to give this brother some face? Or should I call you Brother? Brother Le, Brother Le Le, in the future, I’ll be your follower. Where is your milk bottle? How about I carry it for you?”

How was this the kind of tone and attitude one used to talk to children? Bai Ruan was angry, yet he couldn’t help but laugh at the scene. He tried to send Lang Jing Feng away and said, “Le Le is afraid of meeting new people. I’ll play with him. You can read the children a story. There are storybooks on the bookshelf over there.”

Lang Jing Feng raised his eyes and looked around at a loss. “Where is it?”

At this time, a well-behaved little girl ran over with a fairy-tale picture book and naturally put it in Lang Jing Feng’s hands. “Big Brother, read this to us.”

Lang Jing Feng took the book and glanced at it. “Three Little Pigs.”

“Come over here. Big Brother is going to read the story.” Lang Jing Feng sat cross-legged on the floor, shook the picture book in his hand, and shouted loudly as if he were practising using his outdoors voice.

A few bold children gathered around Lang Jing Feng. He then spread open the picture book on his lap and read “Three Little Pigs” lazily.

“The two little pigs hid in the stone house, and the big bad wolf couldn’t do anything about them…” As Lang Jing Feng read, his mouth curled. He complained, defending the wolf clan. “What is this? How can the wolf not outrun the pigs? If it weren’t for the wolf chasing those two pigs, they would not be able to run to the stone house. They would’ve just died.”

The children looked at one another.

Bai Ruan glanced at the little wolf cub helplessly, and said, “You concentrate on reading the book. I’m going to the bathroom.”

Bai Ruan walked out of the activity room’s door, and left Lang Jing Feng with a group of little children of various ages up to six years old. Lang Jing Feng rolled his eyes and came up with a very fun idea. He tossed the picture book away and said, “This haywire story is boring. Brother will do magic for you. Would you like to see?”

The children clapped their hands one after another. “We want, we want!”

“But you are not allowed to tell Brother Bouncy, okay?” Lang Jing Feng smiled. He took advantage of Bai Ruan not being around and became mischievous. “He won’t let me change. I’m afraid of my wife.”

The children didn’t understand what the word “wife” meant. They just wanted to watch the magic, and all agreed in a hurry.

“Everyone, please watch carefully,” Lang Jing Feng said mysteriously, holding the sides of his head with both hands. “It’s time to witness a miracle. Three, two, one… Change!”

As soon as he finished speaking, Lang Jing Feng relaxed, and two fluffy grey wolf ears popped out of his head.

“Wow!” The children were stunned.

“How are my fake ears?” Lang Jing Feng moved his ears. “It’s battery-powered.”

Le Le, who was hiding far away from Lang Jing Feng, ran over to join in the fun.

“Brother Le Le, you’re here! Come and touch. I don’t bite.” Lang Jing Feng hooked Le Le’s fingers as the other leaned in nervously. His little hand panicked and flicked the tip of Lang Jing Feng’s ear. The moment he touched Lang Jing Feng, the other children once again collectively exclaimed, “Wow!”

“It’s fluffy!” Le Le’s eyes shone in amazement.2乐得眼睛都没了。means to smile happily until his eyes became crescent moon.

A few seconds later, Lang Jing Feng’s pair of wolf ears were captured by the children. They were rubbed, kneaded, touched, and dragged. In the end, Lang Jing Feng couldn’t stand it anymore. Hissing and gasping, he chanted, “Three, two, one, change,” and turned his ears back.

When Bai Ruan came back from cleaning the toilet, he saw Lang Jing Feng, who wasn’t surrounded by the children a few minutes ago, but was now knocked to the ground by seven or eight laughing children. They were playing a game of beating the big bad wolf.

“It’s down, the big bad wolf is down!” Lang Jing Feng playfully growled, “It hurts, it hurts…”

“Big Bad Brother Wolf, get up!”, “I want to play with Big Brother Wolf!”, “Big Brother Wolf, come on!”

“I’m not playing. Brother Wolf is going to hiccup.3It means to die, and it has the same effect as “curled braid”. It is often said that “I almost burped Chaoliang (Chaoliang just hangs himself)”! It means that I almost died. According to a book about the widespread spread dialect slang across the country written by a writer surnamed Chen in modern times, “hiccup” came from the Northeast dialect, meaning death.” Lang Jing Feng got up and ran away.

The children chased him with laughter and joy, and Le Le’s pursuit was the most ferocious. Bai Ruan rubbed his eyes and thought he was dreaming.

When the sun set, Brother Bouncy and Brother Wolf bid farewell to the children and walked out of the orphanage side by side.

“Time for you to go back. Pay attention to safety, and do your homework.” After leaving the gate, Bai Ruan headed towards the subway station.

Lang Jing Feng paused for a moment and then quickly walked a few steps ahead to block Bai Ruan’s way. Smiling out of the corner of his lips, he said in a low voice, “We hardly ever come out. Are we really just going to only do volunteer work?”

Bai Ruan vaguely felt that the wording of this sentence was a bit strange, but didn’t think much of it. He raised his eyes, quickly glanced at Lang Jing Feng, and asked, “What else?”

Lang Jing Feng sighed and came a little closer to Bai Ruan. He changed his tone and pretended to be dissatisfied. “Teacher Bai, you took me out of my home to work as a volunteer on Sunday. This afternoon, my hair was about to become bald because of the children. Forget about compensating me, what did you do when I was done? You just sent me home…” Speaking of this, Lang Jing Feng paused and softened his voice. He continued with a smile, “Do you think it is right?”

The author has something to say:

Lang Jing Feng: Teacher Bouncy is too shy. He won’t take the opportunity to have a meal with me, watch a movie, or do something else? It seems that I have to take the initiative.

Bouncy Bai : …Ji! ! ! (So angry that he forgot human language)
