Song Yi narrowed his eyes. He took out a tea set from the cabinet, and unhurriedly seeped a pot of Biluochun1 A type of Green tea. “For the sweat on your forehead, you can drink some tea to put out the fire 2In Traditional Chinese Medicine, fire means heat. That’s why when Jiangwei is sweating a lot, we want to reduce the heat as tea is considered cooling..”
Zhao Jiangwei took a few tissues and wiped his sweat. He then squeezed out a smile. “The weather is too hot.”
“You’ve changed a lot now, I really didn’t recognize you.” Song Yi smiled, poured a cup of tea and handed it over.
Zhao Jiangwei hurriedly took it and flatteringly praised him. “You are the one who has changed a lot. The top student has become a star now. If it wasn’t for my aunt mentioning it, I wouldn’t have believed it.”
“You’re too polite.” Song Yi lowered his chin slightly. A reserved smile shone. “This profession is like a besieged city. People inside want to come out while people outside want to come in. A mountain looks at a higher mountain, but it’s actually no different from ordinary people.”
Zhao Jiangwei gave a dry smile, carefully sipping his tea.
Song Yi looked at him and casually asked, “I remember that you were admitted to X University. How could you end up as a bodyguard?”
For Zhao Jiangwei to be a school bully, his family had to have some foundations. Although his grades were a mess, his family saved money to send him to X University to give Zhao Jiangwei a degree. At that time, the head teacher took Zhang Jiangwei as a case example every day and told the gangsters in the class not to follow Zhao Jiangwei’s example.
Zhao Jiangwei trembled as if a nail had been stuck under his butt. “I didn’t go to College, something happened.”
Song Yi thought for a bit. He was about to speak when Zhao Jiangwei’s cell phone rang. He took out his cell phone and stood up immediately, as if he was about to make a report, and walked to the balcony to answer the call.
Song Yi tilted his head with interest. The Nokia phone that Zhao Jiangwei used, except for the elderly or people who have been out of touch with the times for a long time, was a rarity for youths to use.
He really didn’t know how Zhao Jiangwei got mixed up like this.
As soon as Song Yi returned to the capital, Zhao Hongyan’s heart fell into her stomach.3Note, Zhao Jiangwei and Zhao Hongyan are not related. During this period of time, because of Song Jie’s frightening incident, she couldn’t sleep well. Now that Song Yi was back, she could finally have a good night’s sleep.
Song Yi usually didn’t have much free time, and the family was busy with other things. This time, he finally got the opportunity to spend a few days with Zhao Hongyan.
This afternoon, Song Yi brought Zhao Hongyan to the mall. Previously, Zhao Hongyan told Song Yi about the neighbor’s aunt’s cheongsam changing every day, showing them off to the other sisters4Non-related; polite way of showing closeness. all day. Now, Song Yi took Zhao Hongyan to custom-make several for herself. With those at hand, Zhao Hongyan felt more at ease.
The two went home with a large bag and a small bag. On the way, Zhao Hongyan sat in the back seat and hesitantly gazed at Song Yi. “How are you and that Shen Li?”
Shen Li used to go to Song Yi’s house to do homework frequently. Zhao Hongyan had a good impression of Shen Li; for a time, she made Shen Li’s favorite food everyday. Yet towards her own son, Song Yi, she never showed such concern before.
Song Yi drove the car and didn’t look back. “Shen Li has been very busy recently, so we didn’t get in touch.”
Zhao Hongyan sighed and resentfully glowered at the back of Song Yi’s head. “When you were in school, there were love letters in your schoolbag everyday. There are so many people who like you. Why can’t you get Shen Li?”
Song Yi’s head hurt when he heard this topic. “It all depends on fate. It’s not my time yet.”
Zhao Hongyan scowled at him. “Is it because your criteria are too high? Although your standing is rather good, you can’t be too picky.”
“That’s not the case. It’s really because there’s no one suitable enough. If there is a suitable one, I’ll definitely talk about it,” Song Yi replied helplessly.
Zhao Hongyan said, “What do you like?”
Song Yi pondered and honestly replied, “A person who is delicate and pretty, with a quiet and gentle personality. One who can get along with me.”
He was a very pragmatic person. Passion was only temporary after all. Once two people got along with each other, it was more likely that there would be no ups and downs. Rather than lust, to be able to live their lives in a down-to-earth manner was more important.
“This kind is easy to find.” Zhao Hongyan took out her phone and rummaged through the photos. “Your Aunt Zhou’s nephew came back from abroad, and he fits your description. Although he’s a beta, he’s a top student from X University…”
Song Yi smiled awkwardly. “Don’t worry, I’ve been very busy recently, and I don’t have time to fall in love. Wait until my busy period has ended.”
Now that he was a zero5Aka Bottom/Shou, this new identity of being an Omega had not been fully embraced by him yet. It was not yet suitable for falling in love with others at all.
Zhao Hongyan shook her head with a sad look. “Back then, you wanted to audition for X drama but I didn’t want it. Your dad told me that you were different from the children in our family. You were someone who wanted to do big things. He was right. There has never been a smart person like you in the family. There is no one better than you in this family. From your youth until the present day, you have constantly given me pride, despite you not getting married.”
“I’ll try my best.” Song Yi sighed in his heart. If Zhao Hongyan knew that he was now an Omega, she would probably be hit hard.
When he got home, Song Yi parked in the underground garage. The parking spaces in the community were tight. He reversed the car and parked. He pushed the door and got out of the car. He saw a black luxury car parked opposite his, flickering its lights.
Zhao Hongyan didn’t know the car logo, but she could tell it was a good car. She poked Song Yi and asked, “What kind of car is this? Worth one million?”
Song Yi opened the trunk and took out the shopping bag. He glanced sideways, amused. “One million is probably enough to buy one of its headlights.”
“So expensive?” Zhao Hongyan was speechless.
Song Yi ‘en”-ed calmly. “This model is quite expensive, but its performance is good.”
He didn’t tell Zhao Hongyan that this car costs at least 20 million yuan in China. Song Yi previously rented one for the crew during filming. The filming took 30 minutes, and the whole crew took pictures on it for the rest of the time.
Zhao Hongyan muttered, “You see, these people buy such an expensive car. Along this road, if it bumps into another car, who can afford the compensation?”
Song Yi leaned on her shoulder and walked forward. He smiled, “Everyone has car insurance, so we don’t have to worry about it.”
When he said these words, Zhao Hongyan stopped her footsteps and let out a soft “Ah”.
Song Yi turned his head. The black luxury car’s door opened. A tall and slender young man alighted.
Song Yi’s head buzzed. He was dumbfounded for several seconds.
Gu Xingchuan smiled. His half-length ashen hair was cut short and dyed back to regular black. Instead of wearing the usual trendy brand, he changed into fresh white T jeans, looking youthful, energetic, handsome. Just like a college student.
Gu Xingchuan walked over and gave an amiable beam. “Auntie, hello, I’m Gu Xingchuan, Song Yi’s friend.”
Zhao Hongyan was surprised. Then she gave a quick glance to Song Yi. She asked uncomfortably, “This is your friend?”
Gu Xingchuan was truly too popular. This face of his could be seen on TV every day. With advertising endorsements everywhere, even Zhao Hongyan, an old lady, could recognise him.
Song Yi quickly settled down and beamed, “En. My friend. We recently filmed together.”
Zhao Hongyan looked at Gu Xingchuan and complained, “Your friend is coming but why didn’t you tell me in advance? I didn’t buy any vegetables today.”
She didn’t know the situation of Gu Xingchuan’s family, but she only knew that he was a very popular artist. His appearance was clean-cut and handsome, making one lower their guard.

Gu Xingchuan gave an incredulous look to Song Yi. He lowered his head in embarrassment. “Auntie, it’s my fault, I had a little conflict with Song Yi. This time I’m here to apologize to him.”
Zhao Hongyan was surprised. She hurriedly said, “Oh, it’s okay, it’s hard for you to come all the way.” After she finished speaking, she poked Song Yi’s waist and lowered her voice, “What’s the matter? Why are you making such a fuss with your colleagues?”
Song Yi smiled but his heart did not. He patted Zhao Hongyan’s shoulder. “Mom, don’t worry about it, you can go back first.”
Zhao Hongyan was not at ease. She gave a kind look to Gu Xingchuan. “You two have a good talk. You are all friends, what can be the problem? I’ll go shopping for groceries. Later come over and have a meal at the house?”
Gu Xingchuan blinked a few times. He originally had a very deceptive face, and after restraining the aura of a gangster, he looked pleasing to the eye, albeit a little innocent. A cheerful smile paired with words uttered from his mouth,”I have been listening to Song Yi talk about your great cooking skills, and it would be fantastic to be able to try your cooking.”
Zhao Hongyan was elated. “Okay! My niece likes you so much. Even her screensaver is your photo. You must come later.”
“Thank you, Auntie.” Gu Xingchuan took a long look at Song Yi and unhurriedly replied, “But I may not have time today. I want to have a good talk with Song Yi and solve the problem between us.”
Zhao Hongyan was a little disappointed. “You guys have a good chat.” Turning her back, she instructed Song Yi, “Have a good chat. He’s such a good boy.”
Song Yi was speechless. He didn’t expect Gu Xingchuan to be quite good at pretending to be like a normal person.
It would have really a pity if he didn’t join the film industry,
Zhao Hongyan turned back with every three steps she made, reluctantly heading upstairs.
As soon as she left, Gu Xing revealed his true self. He found a comfortable position for himself, crossed his arms around his chest, and leaned against the car door. “Song Yi, why did you take such a long leave?”
Song Yi beamed, thinking in his heart: I asked for leave to hide from you. He was not to be outdone. He added needles to his words. “President Gu has not yet become a major shareholder of Star Entertainment. Young Master Gu, you have no right to ask me about my whereabouts ba?”
Gu Xingchuan stared at him, stiffly turning his face away. “I marked you. You are my Omega, and I have the right to know your whereabouts.”
“It was temporary,” Song Yi added.
Gu Xingchuan stressed, “Even if it was temporary, I am still your Alpha.”
Song Yi didn’t want to argue about this matter. It was unnecessary to quarrel about this. He stated, “Why did you come for me?”
Gu Xingchuan’s eyes wavered. “To see you. Are you feeling better?”
“Thank you for your concern, I’m already feeling much better.” Song Yi politely distanced himself.
Gu Xingchuan pursed his thin lips and did not speak.
Song Yi stared at his face for a moment. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll go home.”
After speaking, he didn’t wait for a moment. He turned his head and began to leave. Gu Xingchuan hesitated for a moment, before following with gritted teeth. He grabbed Song Yi’s wrist and clenched tightly, “Don’t go.”
Song Yi was confused. He looked down at his wrist, his face full of questions.
“I have something to ask you.” Gu Xingchuan’s adam apple stirred a few times. Yet after a long pause, he didn’t know how else to speak, finally settling on, “Did you and Cheng Song watch “XXX”? Was it good?”

thanks for the chapter ♡♡
Why don’t Song Yi and Song Jie’s mom have their surname?
Chinese naming sense is generally patriarchal do they would have kept their father’s surname. Women in China don’t normally adopt their husband’s surname upon marriage, from what I understand.
Oh! Thanks for the explanation. I was thinking maybe she re-married but then I wondered why she relied on her son instead of her second husband.
+1 That’s true. But even though women don’t adopt their husband’s surname, they’re still considered to be ‘married into’ their husband’s family. Like in ancient times, the wife would be added onto the husband’s family tree after marriage but not vice versa. The wife would also move into her husband’s family’s ancestral home. Besides, taking on last names is only a western tradition, so I think it’s unfair to expect the whole world to have an ethnocentric perspective. Also, China was the first civilization to use surnames / family names, so rather, it should be the western traditions that are strange.
Thanks for the chapter! Hehe GXC getting jelly and eating more vinegar. He needs to try hard to win over our SY.
Idk why but whenever CN’s use XXX or similar types to avoid having to name something I always think it’s a censor for something unmentionable lmao
Lol, I was making it Vin Disel’s movie “XXX” and it made the entire chapter funnier to me. I /know/ it was a censored name, but “XXX” being a real movie name and thinking of these characters watching Vin Disel (on a hard to find limited edition no less) was just funnier to me.
I don’t know why but I really don’t like his mother and sister…
I know right. They’re both giving “bloodsucker” vibes. His mom especially. She’s kinda vain and materialistic.
